We first met Jenny and Sumit on 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way Season 1. Sumit sent Jenny a friend request from a fake social media account and the two began talking online. After growing feelings for Jenny, Sumit revealed that he catfished her. He didn't think she'd accept him as he was. Despite the deceit, the couple video chatted for the first time and Jenny ultimately forgave Sumit. She was ready to leave her life in Palm Springs behind and move to India to be with him.
Sumit was half Jenny's age, which deeply concerned her family. When Jenny asked her daughter, Christina, to help her pack for India, she confessed that Sumit catfished her in the beginning of their relationship.
Meanwhile in India, Sumit lied to his parents. He told them he was moving away for work, but he was actually moving so he could live with Jenny — which was unconventional in their culture. He went against his parents' wishes and defied societal norms for the sake of love, but he still feared that Jenny would have a difficult time adjusting to life in India.
Jenny arrived in India!
Sumit wanted Jenny to try on some traditional dresses. He hoped the clothes would help her adapt to her new surroundings.
Sumit dropped a bomb on Jenny. He quit his call center job so he could spend more time with her and help her adjust to life in India. Jenny began to worry about their financial stability.
The couple felt judged for their relationship. People made rude remarks about their age gap and the two often found themselves at odds with society.
Sumit's parents grew suspicious of his living situation and asked him to come home. They suspected he was with Jenny, so he agreed.
Jenny searched for employment while Sumit was away at his parents' house.
Sumit felt torn between his parents and Jenny, and he didn't want to disappoint anyone. He let her know just how much she meant to him and that their love was worth fighting for.
Christina and her wife made a surprise visit!
But the joyful feeling didn't last long. Jenny learned that Sumit had been in an arranged marriage with another woman in India for the past two years. His wife's father showed up at their door and the situation escalated quickly. Sumit's family and his wife's family got into it and the terrifying evening ended with Sumit being taken away by his parents.
Sumit explained that he didn't want to be married to his wife, but getting a divorce in India was no easy feat. Although they loved each other and wanted to try to make it work, Jenny's visa was about to expire and she returned to America.
On 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way Season 2, Jenny prepared to fly back to India. She and Christina met with a financial advisor to discuss her options.
After five months apart, the couple reunited! Sumit filed for divorce from his wife and things were looking up.
They held a special ceremony to bless their new home.
Jenny and Sumit met with a lawyer in India to discuss Sumit's divorce and their future. The couple learned that Sumit's parents had the power to object to their marriage.
Jenny and Sumit painted the walls of their house. They wanted their new place to feel like home.
Sumit talked with his parents about his relationship with Jenny. They felt that their son chose Jenny over them.
Emotions ran high when Sumit shared the pain he experienced during his arranged marriage. He asked his parents to look at things from his perspective. They said they'd try to accept his relationship with Jenny, but they couldn't make any promises.
Sumit's divorce was finalized. He had his father's support and shared the great news with Jenny over FaceTime.
The pair asked Sumit's parents for their permission to get married one more time. His parents refused and the conversation turned into a complete blowout.
They couldn't get married without Sumit's parents' permission, but that didn't mean they wouldn't stop trying. Sumit professed his love and commitment to Jenny, and she finally got the ring she was yearning for.
Their story continued on the third season of 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way. Jenny had her tourist visa extended for several months due to the pandemic. However, if they didn't find a more permanent solution, she'd eventually have to leave India again. The couple was on a mission and began discussing their options.
Jenny and Sumit met with an immigration lawyer and asked what they could do to keep Jenny in the country. The lawyer explained that Jenny could give up her American citizenship, but she wouldn't even consider it. Another option was for Jenny to obtain a missionary visa.
Jenny visited a Hare Krishna temple and learned how to chant. Although she found it calming and quite stress relieving, she learned that she'd need to serve the temple full time and the approval process would take a few years.
With the missionary visa out of the running, Jenny and Sumit were only left with two options. They could get married or Jenny would have to return to the United States every six months.
Sumit's brother, Amit, announced his wife's pregnancy and planned a family celebration. At the gathering, Sumit said he wanted Jenny to be included in their big family moments and revealed that they were engaged. After hearing the news, his mom, Sahna, left the celebration.
The couple discussed the situation and agreed that a group counseling session with Sumit's parents would be beneficial for everyone.
There was some back and forth at the counseling session. In the end, Sahna said that Jenny would need to prove herself as an Indian daughter-in-law before she could ever marry Sumit. Sahna requested to live with the couple in order to judge Jenny's progress and teach her Indian customs along the way.
Just like the screaming monkeys on the sidewalk, Jenny was quite upset. She was suspicious of Sahna's condition to live with her and Sumit, but said she'd think it over.
And soon, the decision was made. Sumit's parents moved in for a bit to teach Jenny how to be a proper Indian wife. However, Sahna didn't speak much English and Jenny didn't speak Hindi, which led to a lot of miscommunication — and trouble in the kitchen.
Jenny felt sick shortly after Sumit's parents moved in. Whether it was a bug or just nerves, Sahna wasn't having it. She accused Jenny of "taking it easy" and had her get out of bed to do housework.
But it wasn't all work and no play! Jenny also learned some beneficial yoga practices from Sumit's parents during their stay.
After speaking with the family's astrologer, Sumit's parents wanted to speak to Jenny alone. They decided that although they wouldn't fully support the couple's marriage, they wouldn't stop it either. Best of all, they told Jenny they loved her — and after all they had been through, that meant more to her than anything else.
Jenny and Sumit spoke with their astrologer to find an auspicious wedding date and went to file for marriage soon after! However, Sumit was hiding something from Jenny. Shortly after they filed, he canceled their marriage paperwork.
Sumit finally came clean to Jenny about the paperwork. After a heated discussion, Jenny wondered if Sumit ever wanted to marry her at all. Sumit explained that his previous marriage caused his cold feet, but Jenny didn't understand his hesitation. She considered moving back to America if he couldn't commit.
After having some time to think things through, Sumit decided that his fear of marriage paled in comparison to his fear of losing Jenny. She was his everything and he knew he truly wanted to marry her. So, the couple contacted their lawyer and resumed the process for their paperwork.
The big day finally arrived! Sumit couldn't believe his eyes when he first saw Jenny in her wedding attire.
Sumit exclaimed, "You're looking gorgeous! Like the most beautiful person I've ever seen!" Jenny felt just as enamored. They weren't going to let anything or anyone stand in their way this time, so Sumit decided not to tell his parents they were tying the knot.
The couple fed the Brahmin, the highest Hindu priests, in exchange for blessings and moved on to their special ceremony. After walking seven steps together at the end, they were officially pronounced husband and wife!
