Picking out the dress of your dreams for your wedding can be both an exciting and thrilling adventure. After scanning the racks at different bridal stores, locking eyes with a dress that makes you fill with emotions can feel like love at first sight.

But after your big day comes to an end, you might have an urge to give up your dress instead of keeping it stored away in your closet forever. If you’re interested in selling your wedding dress, here are some options to consider.

Get It Cleaned and Ready

After your wedding ends and you’ve decided to potentially part ways with your dress, get it ready to be re-sold. Take it to a dry-cleaner who specializes in wedding dresses to make sure they can get any stains out and keep the dress looking as perfect as possible. Once you have the dress cleaned and hung up inside a garment bag, you can then decide if you want to list it for sale or keep it forever.

Research a Starting Price

If you’re tempted to sell it to another bride in need, start by researching how much you want to sell it for. How much you list it for is usually determined by the style and fabric of the dress and how much that look is in-demand.

You can use a wedding dress price calculator to help you come up with a price or scan resale websites to see what similar dresses are going for.

Find a Local Consignment Store

Want to see if you can sell your dress locally? Research a handful of consignment stores in your area and head over with your dress. Now that you have a price in mind, see if they’d be willing to try to sell your dress for you at that price in the store. Most consignment shops will take a percent of the sale, so consider that when you determine the price to sell your dress for.

Ask a Local Bridal Store

If your dress is a popular style, reach out to local bridal stores and see if they want to buy it as a sample dress for brides-to-be to use to try on. While this option is more of a unique route, some stores might be willing to buy the dress if they are having trouble getting a sample of it from the manufacturer. It’s worth a try especially if your gown is a popular or trendy style.

Post In a Facebook Group

One of the first ways you can try to sell your dress is by posting it in a Facebook group. There are many different groups out there themed around wedding resale items, like this wedding resale group with over 100,000 members. List your dress in the group by sharing a photo, description, style number, designer, and price. Sort through inquiries and when you find someone interested, you can either ask for a local pick-up or offer to ship the dress to them.

Use a Reseller App or Website

You can also list your dress on a resale website or app, like Still White or Nearly Newlywed. That’s where many brides-to-be will go to search for the dress of their dreams at a less expensive price than buying it new in a bridal boutique. Scan these apps and websites to see how much similar styles are selling for before listing your dress.
