FRANCESCO CARTA
Every year, when the weather drops and it gets cold outside, I find myself facing the same challenge. How do I stay warm while also looking stylish at the same time? I’m the type of person who will ditch the trends in an attempt to be cozy. This year, I attempted to find a jacket that was comfortable, warm, and modern.
I decided to try three of the top best-selling winter jackets on Amazon, all under $60. Here’s what I liked and didn’t like about each one.
Gihuo Puffer Jacket
The first jacket I tried not only looked stylish, but it also had a detachable hood. I decided to get this jacket in white, so it would brighten up any outfit that I put it over on a cold winter day.
What I Liked About the Gihuo Puffer Jacket
The jacket was lightweight, but had thick padding that made it warm to wear out. I liked that it had two zippered pockets big enough for my wallet and gloves. The best part about this jacket was that it was super versatile. The hood is removable, but it also has buttons and a drawstring to help block out the wind if I decide to keep it on. Plus, the drawstrings at the bottom of the jacket help change the length. If I wanted to wear it longer, I could extend the drawstrings or pull them up to make the jacket more of a cropped look.

What I Didn’t Like About the Gihuo Puffer Jacket
I found the jacket to be a little boxy and slightly big. I usually wear my coats one size up, but this is a style I’d recommend ordering a size smaller than usual. That way, the jacket will look a bit more fitted and modern when you wear it.
WHN Women’s Cropped Quilted Puffer Jacket
A lot of my friends are wearing cropped puffer jackets this season. I’ve never owned one because I was worried that it wouldn’t keep my whole body warm in the freezing temperatures. I ordered one in the color white to test it out.
What I Liked About WHN Women's Cropped Quilted Puffer Jacket
The jacket was well made. It had a high neck that helped fight off wind gusts, two side pockets, and padding for extra warmth. Out of all the jackets I tried, this one seemed the most stylish and looked the best when paired with jeans.

What I Didn’t Like About WHN Women's Cropped Quilted Puffer Jacket
While this jacket looked cool and trendy, the real test was wearing it out on a day when the temperatures lingered around 30 degrees. I wore a heavy sweatshirt and a long-sleeve shirt under the jacket. However, I did find that because the jacket was shorter in length, the lower half of my body was colder than usual. The jacket is perfect for a night out, but it isn’t warm enough to use as an everyday jacket when I’m on the go.
Outdoor Ventures Packable Lightweight Jacket
I plan to do a lot of travel this winter and wanted to try out a packable, lightweight coat that I could put in a suitcase or fold into a carry-on bag. I wanted to try a different color than I usually wear, so I decided to try a packable puffer jacket in dark grey.
What I Liked About the Outdoor Ventures Packable Lightweight Jacket
Even though this jacket didn’t look as padded as the other ones I tried, it featured high-tech insulation that retained warmth. I liked that the jacket was soft, water resistant, and had an attachable hood. I folded up the jacket and it fit nicely in a tote bag, which makes it perfect for travel.

What I Didn’t Like About the Outdoor Ventures Packable Lightweight Jacket
While the jacket worked well for brisk sunny days, I wore it in 30 degree temperature and found myself freezing. It is a great jacket for traveling and when you’re running quick errands, but it won’t withstand the cold temperatures if you plan to be outside all day.
The Bottom Line: Gihuo’s Puffer Jacket Was Stylish and Warm
After testing out three different jackets for the winter, Gihuo’s puffer jacket was the clear winner. It was warm, versatile, and stylish. It paired nicely with jeans, leggings, and even over more formal wear for nights out. I liked how it looked, but more importantly, how it made me feel cozy even on the coldest of days.
