Keeping my skin protected from the harmful rays of the sun is something I take seriously. But, it hasn't always been that way. I spent too many years baking in a tanning bed and laying out with tanning oil. Cringeworthy, I know.

Now that I'm older and wiser, I'm trying to correct and prevent further sun damage. Today, I'm one of those people who doesn't just save sunscreen for beach days. I try to wear it every day.

Over time, I've tested countless sunscreens, but recently, I came across something new that I wanted to give a whirl: sunscreen patches.

The Franz Naked Sunshield Peptide Patches promise to provide an extra layer of UV protection without the need for constant reapplication with the added perk of being sweat and water-resistant. I was curious to see if these patches were worth adding to my daily sunscreen routine and decided to give them a try.

How Do the Patches Work?

The Franz Naked Sunshield Peptide Patches work by using UV-blocking ingredients in a stick-on patch. Unlike sunscreen lotions or sprays that need frequent reapplication, these patches claim to protect skin from harmful UV rays all day long.

They're small, clear and designed to be worn on specific areas of your face, like the cheeks, under the eyes and forehead — basically wherever you'd want extra protection.

Each patch forms a thin, invisible layer that can endure sweat, water and long hours of wear.

Besides sun protection, the patches contain peptides which are known for their skin-repairing benefits. While the patches block UV rays, they're supposedly working double duty to support the skin's barrier.

What It Was Like Using Them

When I first opened the box, I noticed the patches are packaged in a way that makes tossing them in your makeup bag very easy, so they'd be easy to travel with.

Applying them was simple! Just peel off the backing and stick them on your face. The patches are clear and meant to be nearly invisible, so wearing them all day isn't like wearing a giant band aid on your face.

The patches aren't sticky and felt light on my skin. After a few minutes, I actually forgot they were there, which is a plus if you don't want a constant reminder that you're wearing something extra on your face.

Throughout the day the patches stayed put without getting uncomfortable or peeling off while I was running errands, taking my dog for a walk and — of course — spending some time outside in the sun.

At night, I took the patches off and noted that they didn't leave a mark or lead to any breakouts in the days that followed.

Pros

  • Long-Lasting Protection: The best part is not needing to worry about reapplying sunscreen in that area.
  • Invisible and Lightweight: These patches are clear and designed to blend into your skin, making them discreet and easy to forget about. You could even wear them under makeup without issues.
  • Sweat and Water-Resistant: If you're active or live somewhere humid, the sweat and water-resistant feature is a huge plus. They stayed in place throughout the day, even when I was outdoors and moving around.
  • Skin-Boosting Ingredients: The peptides in these patches make them feel like skincare and sun protection in one. They add a little extra love to your skin, which feels like a nice bonus.

Cons

  • Limited Coverage Area: Since these patches are designed for specific areas, they don't provide full-face coverage. You'll still need sunscreen for areas the patches don't cover.
  • Single-Use: Each patch can only be used once, so if you're using them daily, it could get pricey.
  • Not for Sensitive Skin: While they didn't irritate my skin, people with highly sensitive skin might want to patch-test first to make sure the adhesive doesn't cause a reaction.

Bottom Line

The Franz Naked Sunshield Peptide Patches are an interesting and innovative way to add extra protection to your skincare routine. They're easy to use, stay put all day and add a dose of skincare benefits with peptides.

While they're not a complete sunscreen replacement, they're a great companion to your regular SPF for those high-sun, high-activity days when you don't want to fuss with reapplying.

If you're looking for an option that doesn't require reapplication and offers UV protection on the go, these patches are worth a try.
