These Dress Trends Are Out
After your closest friends and family members accept the honor of standing by your side as your bridal party, it’s time for the planning to officially begin. In the mix of deciding where to go for your bachelorette party and what games to play during your bridal shower, you’ll find yourself thinking about what you want your bridesmaids to wear on your wedding day.
While bridesmaid dress styles have changed over the years, there are some trends we're happy to part with.
Identical Dresses
This was a go-to style option that ranked high in popularity, where all the bridesmaids would wear the exact same dress in the same color. While this simplified the planning process, since all brides had to do was pick out one dress, it often made the bridal party feel uncomfortable.
Instead of having the entire bridal party look identical, today’s brides are celebrating their bridesmaids uniqueness and letting them choose a dress style that fits them the best. Popular trends include having the bridal party wear different dresses of the same color or even letting them mix and match both the style and the color.
Chiffon Dresses
For so many years, chiffon was one of the most popular fabrics used to make bridesmaid dresses. While the lightweight and flowy fabric made the dresses feel more comfortable to wear, it wasn’t always the most flattering look for everyone.
One of the ways that brides are making their bridesmaid styles more personalized is by letting each person pick a different fabric. Oftentimes, members of the bridal party will be seen wearing velvet, tulle, satin, and, yes, chiffon. Mixing fabrics not only lets each person tap into their individual style, but it’s also a fun way to make your bridal party stand out on your wedding day.
Floor-Length Gowns
When people think of bridesmaids, they often imagine them wearing long bridesmaid dresses. But in recent years, brides have moved away from having all their bridesmaids wear floor-length gowns and instead opted for dresses that go to the ankle or even right below the knees.
If you’re looking for a way to mix and match the bridesmaid styles, having your bridal party pick dresses of different lengths is one unique way of doing that.
One Color Only
The trend of having all your bridesmaids wear the same color dress is slowly starting to become less popular. These days, brides are having more fun with the color options that they are handing over to their bridesmaids.
Some bridal parties will wear dresses that are different shades of the same color or wear dresses that are different colors or in different patterns.
New Instead of Used
Being a bridesmaid can be expensive. Oftentimes, one of the biggest costs associated with the role is having to buy a brand new bridesmaid dress.
To help members of the bridal party save a few hundred dollars, brides are moving away from the trend of having their friends splurge on brand new dresses. Now, they’re opting for pieces their bridesmaids already own or wearing used dresses instead.
