Chris decided to start his own weight loss journey after watching his sisters, Amy and Tammy, on theirs. He was determined to lose enough weight to get bariatric surgery and take control of his health.
Seeing Tammy struggle to reach her goals set a fire under Chris. He decided it was time for him and Tammy to take accountability for their eating habits and make a conscious effort to lose weight. No more excuses.
Chris was eating healthier and started a strict diet. He ramped up his exercise as well. Here, he and Tammy warmed up before a session with a personal trainer.
Chris weighed in at Dr. Smith's office and doubted the accuracy of the scale. He was in disbelief that he was actually under 400 pounds! He was making amazing progress and lost 20 pounds in a month.
In case you didn't know, Chris is the king of the grill! He cooked up some healthier BBQ options for Amy's baby shower since so many of his family members were trying to eat lighter.
Chris only had 15 pounds to go to reach his goal weight for surgery. For the next few weeks, that became his main focus.
After losing more than his goal weight, Chris was approved for surgery by Dr. Smith!
Unfortunately, Chris needed an abcess removed from his upper thigh. In order to fully heal, he had to rest for several weeks and it threw a wrench in his progress.
Once he was healed, it was time for Chris to get back into his routine. He even tried different exercises to stay active and engaged, like axe chopping.
Chris gained a few pounds back while he was recovering from his abcess removal surgery. So, he and his Dr. Smith created small goals to get him back on track.
Chris put everything he had into dieting and exercising. He knew that having surgery would change his life significantly and finally — after all of his hard work — he was once again approved by Dr. Smith!
Chris experienced a painful recovery, but he had his wife, Brittany, by his side and full support from his family back home.
After his successful surgery, Chris focused on creating new goals and continuing to lose weight. He took an old pair of pants and fit himself inside one leg! It was just like one of those TV commercials.
Although Chris was consistently losing weight, a new concern weighed heavy on his mind: his loose skin. He found it hard to exercise and move around with the extra skin having nowhere to go. He discovered that he lost 20 inches on his waist!
Chris weighed himself during a video call with his doctor. He was down around 200 pounds from his original weight of 500 pounds!
Chris' nephews set up a challenging obstacle course for him and it was a fun way to get in a good workout.
Farmer Chris helped Amy plant a healthy vegetable garden. In true Slaton family fashion, he couldn't help but make jokes and whipped out his extra skin, saying he could slap someone with it. Amy even called it the "best chicken breast."
Chris and his sister, Misty, chatted with Tammy right before her weight loss surgery. Chris wanted to give her all the support and positive words he could, having gone through the same procedure himself. He advised her on how it would go and how she would feel, and he couldn't wait to see his sister after reaching such an important milestone in her own journey.

With skin removal surgery within his reach, Chris ramped up his workouts. He needed to lose another 50 pounds and found fun ways to be active. He and his sisters wore trash bags to the gym for an extra sweaty training session.
In an effort to eat healthier, Chris decided to buy a chicken coop and raise chickens in his yard. He figured it would give his family easy access to lean protein and eggs. Brittany was on board as well! Unfortunately, Chris didn't read carefully and accidentally ordered a rabbit hutch for the birds.
Chris crossed parasailing off his bucket list! He described the experience as peaceful and exciting — and he loved that everyone looked like ants from 500 feet above.
Chris and Tammy went for an unusual check up. They each got their body fat measured in a machine called the "Bod Pod" for more accurate numbers.
Tammy just couldn't keep it together at the sight of Chris. She said he looked like a scuba diver.
Chris and his siblings had a weigh in schedule with Dr. Smith. He hit a plateau with his weight loss at 300 pounds and felt disappointed. However, the goal of skin removal surgery kept him motivated.
