5 Celebrity Couples Who Got Married at City Hall
Not every celebrity wedding is over-the-top
We expect celebrity weddings to be lavish affairs with over-the-top flowers, amazing décor and guests representing the Hollywood who’s who, but some celebrity couples opt for simple, private affairs. Since all you need is love and just a quick trip to city hall to say “I do,” here are five couples that tied the knot at the courthouse.
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard
These two lovebirds, who have quickly become one of our favorite celeb couples, skipped the fancy wedding and opted for a private ceremony at the Beverly Hills courthouse in 2009. The couple, who have two daughters, can often be found on Instagram sharing stories about their lives and supporting one another’s careers. Kristen shared one of their wedding photos in which she was feeling emotional over their nuptials, and Dax was having a little fun at her expense. “To the man who mocked me in our wedding photos because I cried too many tears of joy,” she captioned the photo. The couple who laugh and cry together stay together, right?
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend
While fans probably remember the lavish Italian wedding of Chrissy and John, the couple actually said “I do” weeks before in a New York court house. "We actually got married after going to a couple Fashion Week shows at Vera Wang, ironically who actually did my dress, but we got married at the courthouse right after," Chrissy told E! News. "We are dumb and didn't realize that our Italian wedding would not be recognized unless we had a real ceremony in New York City." The couple have been married since 2013 and share two children together. If you are following Chrissy’s Instagram, then you know this happy couple are always up for fun and lots of laughs.
Jessica Alba and Cash Warren
The mom-of-three and founder of The Honest Company went no frills with a private ceremony when she wed hubby Cash Warren in 2008. Jessica, who was pregnant with their first daughter, Honor, reportedly wore a long blue dress and had her hair up in a ponytail. The couple made their wedding day all about them, so no friends and family attended their courthouse ceremony. Simple and romantic.
Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso
This couple famously met in 2002 when Matt showed up in a bar that Luciana was working in. Fast forward to 2005 and the couple tied the knot at City Hall in New York City. Luciana's daughter, Alexia, served as witness to their nuptials, and since their wedding day, the couple has added three more daughters to their family. In 2013, the couple renewed their vows in St. Lucia's where they were surrounded by family and lots of celebrity friends.
Keira Knightley and James Righton
While the other couples on our list wed in American city halls, this couple tied the knot in the South of France. While the location sounds over-the-top, their wedding day was not. According to sources, ten guests were in attendance for the ten-minute ceremony. While Kiera has been mum on the details of her 2013 wedding, she has donned her wedding dress for numerous occasions after the wedding day. Of the dress, Kiera has said, "I just wanted to be in something I had had a great time in, something I would have a great time in again."
