When I was a teenager, hair styling was more like hair struggling and of course, I have the cringe-worthy photos to prove it. Think frizz, random kinks and a whole lot of hairspray. It was the '90s, so there was a lot happening on my teenage head.

Fast forward to the present and my teenage daughter who has very curly hair, thankfully did not inherit my styling skills. She's a pro at managing her curls, but for those days when she wants to go straight, the Calista StyleDryer Pro has become her go-to tool.

Here's why this gadget has earned a permanent spot in our bathroom.

First Impressions

When we first got the Calista StyleDryer Pro, my daughter and I thought the device looked like a cross between a hairbrush and a hair dryer, which is basically what it is. It comes with multiple attachments, making it versatile enough for different styling needs.

The design is sleek, and it feels solid yet lightweight. My daughter, who usually rolls her eyes at my excitement over new gadgets, was actually eager to try it out.

How To Use the Calista StyleDryer Pro

Using the Calista StyleDryer Pro is surprisingly simple. It comes with an instructional guide, but honestly, it's pretty intuitive. Here's a quick rundown:

  • Prep: Start with towel-dried hair that is about 85% to 95% dry. Don't try this tool on soaking wet hair or you are looking for a whole lot of damage to your locks.  My daughter usually also applies a heat protectant to keep her curls safe.
  • Attach and Go: Choose your attachment. For straightening, she uses the brush attachment. She separates her hair and starts with two-inch sections at the bottom of her head.
  • Dry and Style: Turn it on and start brushing through the hair. The combination of heat and the brushing action straightens the hair as it dries. It's a bit like using a round brush and a hairdryer simultaneously, but with way less effort. Sometimes she asks me to help with the back of her head because it can be tricky to do it yourself.
  • Finish: She goes over any stubborn sections with the straightening attachment for a sleek finish.

Results

The results have been impressive. My daughter's hair is fine and curly, but she has a lot of hair, so getting it straight usually takes a lot of work and we usually left that up to a professional with fancy blowout tools.

With the Calista StyleDryer Pro, she can achieve straight, smooth hair in about half the time it used to take and I don't have to pay anyone to straighten her hair.

The best part? It doesn't look flat or lifeless. Her hair maintains volume and movement, which is a huge win and she can wear it straight for several days. When she washes it, her curls come back and don't feel dry or damaged at all.

Pros

  • Ease of Use: This tool is user-friendly. My daughter figured it out quickly and it's easy for her to switch attachments and adjust the settings.
  • Versatility: With multiple attachments, it's more than just a straightening tool. She can add volume or go for a sleek look, all with one device.
  • Timesaving: It significantly cuts down on styling time. Perfect for those rushed school mornings or when she wants to switch up her look quickly.
  • Quality Results: Her hair looks smooth, shiny and healthy. No frizz or flyaways in sight.
  • Lightweight and Portable: It's easy to handle and doesn’t take up much space, making it great for travel.

Cons

  • Learning Curve: There's a slight learning curve with the different attachments. It took a couple of tries to get the hang of switching between them seamlessly.
  • Heat Damage: With any heat styling tool, if you overuse it and don't protect your hair appropriately, you could end up damaging your hair.

Bottom Line

The Calista StyleDryer Pro has been a game-changer in our household. My daughter loves its versatility and ease of use and I love that she can achieve salon-quality results at home.

For those with curly hair looking for an efficient way to switch to a straight look, this tool is worth considering. It's transformed her hair styling routine from a battle to a breeze.

As for me, I'll stick to watching her work her magic, thankful that today's teens have way better tools than I ever did!
