Mabel's Labels

I've got three kids who are all involved in sports and after-school activities. So, in addition to daily carpools, I've also got the task of responding to texts from moms trying to search down their kid's misplaced sports gear, clothes, and water bottles — all while I'm digging though the lost and found to find my kid's favorite jacket.

At any age, kids are great at forgetting some of their favorite items and it's usually mom's job to be the keeper of lost things. To make my job a bit easier, I've started labeling everything — and I mean EVERYTHING. From goggles to lunchboxes to dance costumes, if it leaves this house, it's got one of my kids' names on it.

If you do a quick search of labels designed for kids, you'll find plenty of brands that say their labels are durable and waterproof. But I've got the cheap labels stuck inside my washing machine and on the floor of my car to prove that you should skip those brands and head straight over to Mabel's Labels.

From peel and stick and tags to stamps and iron-on options, Mabel's Labels has plenty of options to keep your kids' stuff properly labeled. Plus, kids can choose their own design and fonts so they can personalize their labels. Since their labels are waterproof, you can wash the clothes and lunchboxes without worrying that the labels will come off.

What are Mabel's Labels?

This brand has a cool backstory. Mabel's Labels is a company that was founded by a group of moms who were tired of their kids' items getting lost or mixed up. Over the past twenty years, the brand has grown and now specializes in personalized labels for various items, including clothing, school supplies, sports gear, and household items.

Who Should Get Mabel's Labels?

If you have kids who are in sports, after school activities, going to camp this summer, or a little one in daycare or preschool, you'll love these labels.

My youngest is headed to a few day camps this summer, so I ordered the summer camp pack for him to put a label on his clothes, sunglasses, lunchbox, and even goggles. That way, everything I send with him will hopefully find its way back to our house.

Perfect for Kids of All Ages

Since all three of my kids are at very different stages of life and have different interests, I really appreciate that there is a design that works for all of them. That means I’m not searching for options elsewhere for the kids.

My kids have sports to keep them super busy, so I appreciate that Mabel's Labels offers designs that teens and tweens will like just as much as my four-year-old.  While my youngest loves dinosaurs, my teen is digging the tie-dye style, and my tween loves that her labels have ballet shoes on them.

How to use Mabel's Labels

For peel-and-stick labels, choose a smooth, clean, and dry surface. Pull off the backing and press down hard when applying. Wait 48 hours before washing the items to let the bond develop.

For iron-on labels, you'll need to set your iron to dry mode and no steam. Place the iron-on label and the silicone sheet (provided with the labels) on the fabric. Place the iron onto the label and silicone sheet for ten seconds. The silicone sheet is reusable so you can use it over and over.

How to Order Mabel's Labels

While you can order many items separately, I like that they create themed packs that cover all the items your child may need.

For instance, they have a sleepaway pack that comes with 112 labels and 2 tags. Again, you can choose the design and the font to personalize the labels.

There is also the day camp package that comes with 39 labels and two tags.

For little ones, the day care pack is a must-have, with 54 labels and two tags.

Another favorite in our house is the water bottle band. When so many water bottles start to look alike, it's a great way to make your water bottle stand out.

If you don't want to deal with labels, they also have a stamp option.

Pros

  • Customization: Mabel's Labels offers a wide range of options for customization, allowing kids to personalize their labels according to their preferences. You'll find styles that work for a baby’s daycare items as well as a teen's summer camp essentials.
  • Durable: Their labels are known for being durable and long lasting. You can toss the items with labels in the dishwasher or washing machine and they won't come off. These labels can handle being tossed in a bag all season long and still look great.
  • Variety of Uses: Mabel's Labels can be used for tons of labeling purposes, like clothing, school supplies, lunchboxes, and medicine.
  • Waterproof: Many of their labels are waterproof, which is especially useful for items that need frequent washing or will get wet.

Cons

  • Shipping: While they do offer free standard shipping, don't expect your items overnight — plan ahead and order early. Priority and express are offered but you'll have to pay for it.
  • You Can't Split Packs Between Kids: You can't split a product between multiple names or substituting items. So, if you have more than one child, you'll need to order different packs for them. However, they do offer a Split Name Label Pack, which allows you to add names and customize for two or more kids.

Bottom Line

Should you head over to Mabel's Labels and order a few labels for your kids' stuff? Totally. Between daycare or school items, sports gear and summer camp gear, make your life a whole lot easier and put a label on everything.

Mabel's Labels are waterproof, super durable and can be personalized for kids of all ages. While you may find less expensive labels on the market, stay clear of them because they will fall off after a trip into the washing machine or dishwasher.

If things go missing (which they will), you'll have the peace of mind that your child's items have their names clearly labeled.
