If you're traveling with your kids, chances are you're already stressed. The last thing you want to deal with is losing track of your luggage. While I've tried the last-minute paper tags at the airport and fancy personalized luggage tags, I love gadgets and can't resist smart tech.
So, when I spotted the Knog Scout iOS Smart Tag — a clever little tag that is designed to take the stress out of travel by allowing you to track your bags using Apple's "Find My" app — I knew it needed to go on my luggage immediately.
Whether your bags are in the overhead compartment or on the baggage carousel, you can keep track of them at all times. But why stop there?
As a mom who loves to find multiple uses for just about everything, I also tried it out as a way to track and secure my kids' bikes.
This tiny gadget is turning into a must-have in our family toolkit, whether we're on the go or just making sure everything stays right where it should be. Here's how it stacks up from a parent's point of view, including why it's worth considering for family travels and beyond.
How Does It Work?
The Knog Scout works with Apple's "Find My" network, like an AirTag. Simply pair it with your Apple device and attach it to whatever you want to keep track of. Using Bluetooth, it links with the "Find My" app, so you can see exactly where your tagged item is on a map.
If you're nearby, you can also trigger the Knog Scout to make a loud noise, which is helpful if you're searching for your bag or sifting through a pile of bikes at school pickup.

I love that the Knog Scout can easily attach to both soft and hard surfaces, so you can secure it to a lot of different items. Plus, it's waterproof and designed to handle plenty of bumps along the way. Have you seen bags getting tossed onto converter belts at the airport? Yikes.
Another standout feature is its built-in security alarm; If the Knog Scout detects movement — like if someone messes with your kid's bike–it sounds a loud alarm and sends an alert straight to your phone.
Testing It Out
I decided to test out the Knog Scout by attaching it to my suitcase and my kid's bike. For the suitcase, setup was incredibly easy. I just pulled up "Find My" on my iPhone, paired the tag and attached it securely.
We recently went on a family trip, so it was the perfect opportunity to see if it could handle the airport chaos. From check-in to landing, I could check in on my suitcase's location right from my phone — and sure enough, it even pinpointed when it was on the luggage carousel.
This feature was especially useful when I realized our suitcases had been set on a separate carousel halfway across the airport.
For the bike, I attached it to my kid's handlebars and with one tap, I had the peace of mind that I could find it anytime. I also tested out the alarm feature, moving the bike just enough to trigger it and wow — it's loud enough to get the attention of anyone within earshot.
It's reassuring to know that if anyone were to take the bike, we'd be alerted instantly.

Pros
- Reliable Tracking: Apple's "Find My" network makes it easy to keep track of whatever you attach the Knog Scout to, whether it's a suitcase, bike, or even backpack.
- Anti-Theft Alarm: This tag isn't just about passive tracking. It actively deters theft by sounding an alarm and notifying you of any movement.
- Durability: It's waterproof and durable enough to withstand rough handling or bad weather.
- Battery Life: With months of battery life, you won't need to constantly charge it.
Cons
- Apple-Only Compatibility: The Knog Scout only works with iOS devices, so Android users are out of luck.
Bottom Line
For parents gearing up for travel or just looking for added security for their kids' bikes, the Knog Scout iOS Smart Tag is a fantastic option. Not only does it allow you to skip worrying about those flimsy paper luggage tags that rarely survive the trip, but it also provides peace of mind by allowing you to track your belongings through Apple's "Find My" app.
With the added benefit of the anti-theft alarm, it's a solid choice for keeping tabs on items that might be more prone to "wandering off."
