KIDDIETOTES

We have a lot of family travel coming up, and it was time to get my four-year-old a new suitcase. We wanted him to have his own bag that could double as a carry-on suitcase or a weekender bag, and we tested out a lot of different options. However, instead of grabbing a regular kid-sized suitcase, we went with one that is a lot more exciting.

My son picked out the Kiddietotes Scooter Suitcase and he’s been zooming through airports, down sidewalks, and across hotel lobbies showing off his suitcase. While maybe not the most practical choice for a suitcase, he loves it and it’s made travel days easier for him.

Read on to find out if you should bring this suitcase on your next family vacation.

What Is a Kiddietotes Scooter Suitcase?

This suitcase is designed for toddlers and little kids because it’s lightweight, comes in different options that feature fun characters, and it has a foldable scooter that allows kids to glide to their next destination. When not in use, the scooter locks in place and the suitcase pulls like a regular travel bag.

It also has light-up LED wheels and a telescoping, adjustable aluminum handle. Outside you’ll find a heavy-duty zipper on the hardshell — and inside, cross straps keep the contents in place. This is a smaller suitcase, so it’s not going to hold a week's worth of clothes and shoes for bigger kids. However, it’s a good fit for a long weekend or if you are great at packing light.

If the speed of a scooter in the crowded halls of an airport makes you nervous, I’m right there with you. However, this scooter is great for just scooting straight and is designed for a stable ride, not necessarily a fast ride. My son stayed close to me while scooting and if we found an empty walkway, I let him scoot ahead. This scooter wasn’t as fast or nimble as his regular scooter (which I think is a good thing).

Are Scooters Allowed in Airports?

Yes, you are allowed to bring scooters for kids into airports. You’ll just want to make sure your child is able to navigate crowds without crashing into someone or something in the airport. The Kiddietote is TSA approved and fits within the size and weight limitations for carry-on luggage, but if you're concerned you’ll have to check the bag, speak with the airline before you travel.

What Are the KiddieTotes Designs?

There are plenty of kid-friendly characters featured on the suitcases. This is the monster Kiddietotes that my son has:

They also have fun astronaut option:

And an adorable panda:

What We Like
  1. Kids can burn off some energy before they board a flight.
  2. It’s a great option for kids who are too old for a stroller or don’t want to ride in a stroller.
  3. The bag is super durable and can fit a surprising amount inside.
  4. It’s very lightweight so kids can pull their own bag.
  5. It's a super fun suitcase. The scooter, the lights, the fun characters on the front of the bag. Kids will love it!
What We Don't Like
  1. Since you have to push two buttons to get the handle down (one on top of the handle and the other at the bottom of the handle) it’s not always easy for baggage handlers to figure out. We checked the bag on our last trip and on both flights, it arrived on the baggage claim with the handle up. It wasn’t damaged, but it did make me nervous.
  2. If you’re looking to pack all of your child’s belongings for a long trip, this isn’t the right suitcase.
  3. The suitcase does not rotate 360 degrees and needs to be pulled.

Bottom Line

If you’ve got a toddler, preschooler, or elementary-aged kiddo and you’re looking for a kid-sized carry-on suitcase, the Kiddietotes is a great option. Not only is it durable, but the scooter is also a really fun option. For kids who are too old for a stroller, but could still use a little help making it through the airport, or for the kids who need to get their wiggles out before boarding a plane, using the scooter is a great solution. The scooter folds up easily and doesn't add too much weight to the suitcase. It’s TSA approved and easily fits in overhead storage. Plus, who doesn’t want a cool scooter on their suitcase? It just makes traveling more fun.
