Gabrielle Union Welcomes a Baby Via Surrogate and Shows How New Moms can Bond with their Babies
Congrats to the new parents!
The road to motherhood has been a long one for Gabrielle Union. But finally she was able to make the amazing announcement that she and husband Dwayne Wade, who is a basketball player for the Miami Heat, were the proud parents of a baby girl. The actress and new mom is all smiles in the pictures she shared on Instagram that show she and her husband snuggling their “miracle baby.” According to the couple, they welcomed their little girl via a surrogate, and although they are feeling the new parent exhaustion, they are “delirious” with joy.
Union, who has been vocal about her struggles with infertility, multiple miscarriage, and failed IVF attempts, did not announce that the couple was expecting. So the sweet birth announcement was a welcomed surprise for her fans.
“A LOVELY DAY . We are sleepless and delirious but so excited to share that our miracle baby arrived last night via surrogate,” she captioned the birth announcement photo. “11/7 will forever be etched in our hearts as the most loveliest of all the lovely days. Welcome to the party sweet girl!”
The new mom added the hashtag: #skintoskin and can be seen holding her new baby to her chest. While many shared their excitement and congratulations in the comments of the pictures, some commenters questioned the hashtag.
Doctors encourage skin-to-skin contact with newborns for all moms and dads. According to numerous studies, skin-to-skin immediately after birth calms the baby and helps to stabilize the newborn’s body temperature, heart, and breathing rate as well as the leveling the baby’s blood sugar. Doctors agree, bonding with your newborn with skin-to-skin contact is just as important for mothers who give birth and mothers who have a surrogate.
According to Suggogte.com, “When a baby is born via surrogacy, an emotional transfer needs to take place from the surrogate family to the intended parents. This emotional transfer allows the baby to begin bonding with his or her parents and vice versa.”
While this is the first child for the couple, they are already raising Wade's 16-year-old nephew Dahveon Morris, and two sons Zaire 15 and Zion 10 from a previous marriage since they tied the knot in 2014.
