8 Essential Apps for Holiday Traveling

Holiday travel season is officially here, and if you’re hitting the road or catching a flight with your kids, the most wonderful time of the year can be pretty stressful. So, before you leave your house, load up your phone and tablet with apps that make traveling with kids easier. While we didn’t find any apps that will wrap all of your presents, there are plenty of apps that will do other things for you. From helping you navigate holiday traffic to keeping the kids entertained, and a few extras that make holiday travel with kiddos smooth sailing, you’ll want to download these apps before your travel begins.

Flush: Toilet Finder and Map

Road trips with kids mean plenty of bathroom breaks. Sometimes, you need a bathroom and you need to find one quickly. With the Flush app, you’ll get a listing of the restrooms that are nearest to you, and you’ll also see ratings on cleanliness. Another great feature is the app will let you know if you need a key or code to access the bathroom. Users can rate the bathrooms and add more to the expansive list. This way, you know what you are walking into before you take your kids inside for a bathroom break.

YouTube Kids

There’s too much content on YouTube that isn’t safe for children, but YouTube Kids is a great option. It’s easy to navigate, parents can create accounts for each child and can choose videos geared to their age and interest. Also all of the videos have been approved and are kid-friendly so you can feel good about your kiddo scrolling and watching videos while you travel.

Bamba Airport

This Bamba Airport app is full of interactive games and adventures that kids will love to play if you are flying or driving for the holidays. First, they choose a character to take on a trip. Then, their character has to navigate the airport all while learning about numbers, patterns, and matching.

Waze

There are so many reasons to love Waze during the holiday season, and actually any day you are in the car. Waze offers great features like alternate directions because of traffic or an accident, notifications for speed traps ahead, and locations where you can grab a cup of coffee while you travel. This app will help you save time and a little bit of sanity while traveling.

FLIO

This app multitasks just like you do and has terminal maps, a boarding pass scanner, a flight tracker, and even directions to shuttle buses. There are also options to book your parking ahead of your arrival. FLIO partners with hundreds of airports across the US and other countries, so all of their info and services are up to date. This app is great for holiday travel and anytime you are going to the airport.

Gas Buddy

If you need to fill up multiple times on your trip, Gas Buddy can tell you which gas stations have the best prices. You can also link your debit card and sign up for rewards, so each time you are at the pump, you save money.

Toca Boca

Your kids may have apps that they love, but when they aren’t around wifi, those apps aren’t much fun. So, be sure your kids have a few entertaining games that don’t require wifi when you travel. Toca Boca has plenty of creative apps that are interactive and perfect for kids of all ages. Hair Salon, Kitchen, and Tailor are fun apps to start with and there’s even a Christmas salon where kids can give haircuts to Santa and trim a Christmas tree.

White Noise App

If your kids are trying to sleep while traveling or if you’re staying somewhere that is noisy, White Noise Lite can help block out sound. If your kids are feeling tired, overwhelmed, or just need a break, this app is a great way to give them a few minutes to calm down. This white noise app can help your little one relax and sleep and maybe you can sneak in a nap too.
