Planning a wedding is both exciting and expensive. Even as you craft a strategic budget, research ways to snag discounts, and try out your best negotiation skills on vendors, there are quite a lot of pop-up costs that you might not have thought to plan for (example: vendor tips, taxes and extra fees, and last-minute decorations). One thing you can plan for, before you pick your wedding date, are the days of the year that are known to be extra costly to get married on. Wondering what days of the year are the most expensive days to get married? This list has the top ten.

Christmas Day

Even if Christmas is your all-time favorite holiday and you’ve always imagined your wedding filled with mini-trees and ornaments for decor, you might want to pick another date. It will be extra expensive to hire vendors on that holiday and your guests likely want to spend the day with their families.

Thanksgiving

Wish you could have your wedding on Thanksgiving and fill your guests' plates with pounds of Turkey, stuffing and pie? Getting married on that November Thursday will not only be expensive, but tricky. A lot of venues might not be open (because it’s a weekday and holiday) and a lot of guests will have other plans.

New Year's Eve

It might be your dream to get married on New Year’s Eve and count down to midnight surrounded by all your friends and family members. Well, you can make that happen, but at a premium. Venues and vendors surge their prices on this day, since it’s popular for parties of all kinds.

Labor Day Weekend

The last official weekend of the summer might be a top choice wedding date for you, but you’ll probably be competing with guests’ schedules as well as your vendors’. Since it’s a holiday that happens in prime wedding season, vendors want to work this holiday, so they raise prices and save that date for customers who are willing to pay top dollar.

Memorial Day Weekend

Want to get married on the first weekend of the summer (and a big holiday weekend that occurs during wedding season)? Just like with Labor Day, vendors want to have a wedding on their schedule for this date, and they know they can charge a lot more to make that happen.

Valentine’s Day

It might sound like the most romantic idea to get married on Valentine’s Day (and it is), but picking that holiday will come with many upcharges. It’s known to be the holiday of celebrating love, so vendors and venues might tack on more to the bill because of its popularity.

President’s Day Weekend

If you’re looking to get married on any long weekend, like President’s Day weekend, you’ll find that your wedding and travel costs will skyrocket. The idea of having a wedding on a Saturday and guests getting two days to recover once it’s over makes this long weekend extra pricey to get married on.

Fourth of July

The Fourth of July can fall on any day — but even if it falls on a Tuesday, you can expect it to be expensive to get married. It’s a national holiday, so vendors and venues will charge you more. If the date appeals to you because of fireworks, pick another summer day instead (to save money) and ask your venue if you can do fireworks there instead.

Halloween

Love all things spooky and scary? Thinking about planning a wedding on Halloween and asking guests to arrive in costume over cocktail attire? While the idea sounds extraordinary, it will be a more expensive wedding than if you had the party on another date in October. Consider having your wedding the week before or after and still making it Halloween-themed.

Superbowl Sunday

The Superbowl is known for wings and pizza, great commercials, and football. Having your wedding on Superbowl Sunday will be expensive because it’s a popular day for caterers to provide food for other events. Plus, your guests might be quite distracted watching the game instead of watching you say "I do."
