Countdown to forever
When you're in the midst of planning your wedding, it can feel like the big day is so far away. Which is why when the 30-day countdown comes along, you might find yourself filled with endless excitement and a little bit of nerves.
Before you get overwhelmed with last-minute details, it’s important to prioritize a checklist of what you need to take care of before your celebration happens. Here are the 10 things to do if your wedding is less than 30 days away.
Create a To-Do List
Whether or not you've already been using a to-do list for all of your wedding tasks, now is the time to organize all of your notes in one place. Create a 30-day list of everything you need to finish, from big tasks like phone calls with vendors, to small ones, like trying on your wedding shoes. Having this list by your side will make you feel ready to get things done in a short amount of time.
Make it Legal
With all the excitement around the look and feel of your celebration, you might have forgotten about making your marriage legal. Research the rules around getting a marriage license in your state and make the earliest appointment that you can. Having your marriage license packed for your wedding day just helps you get one step closer to making it all official.
Do a Final Outfit Fitting
Pick a date where you and your partner can do a final outfit fitting for dresses or suits. Ask for any final alterations and try on the entire look (from the shoes to the accessories) to make sure everything feels okay and is exactly what you hoped for when deciding on your wedding day styles.
Finalize the Headcount & Seating Chart
Now that the RSVPs from family and friends have started to pour in, it’s time to finalize the headcount so you can share that number with your caterer and your venue. Once you’ve done that, you can eyeball the guest list and begin working on a seating chart of what table each guest should settle in for the night at your wedding.
Organize Decor and Accessories
Whether you’re gone big with DIY decor or you’ve bought just a few accessories to scatter throughout the venue, don’t wait last-minute to pack these items up. Organize and label your wedding decorations and accessories by where they should be set up at your venue (ex: table cards, centerpieces, menus, etc. should go in one box). That way, anyone assisting with setting up the wedding can help unpack these boxes for you.
Check-In With Vendors & Bridal Party
Eyeball your calendar and start finding time to do a final check-in with each vendor. Confirm they have everything they need from you and answer any questions that they have. This will make you, and them, feel prepared for the big day. Also, check-in with your bridal party to make sure they have the wedding day timeline and are prepared to be there by your side.
Review Your Wedding Timeline
While your wedding day is something you look forward to for a while, it’s a celebration that goes by quickly. Be sure to review your wedding day timeline to make sure everything you want to do that day is on the schedule (from a first-look to cake cutting). That way, your wedding vendors (such as your photographer, wedding planner, or staff at the venue), can help the day go as planned.
Pack Your Emergency Kit
There are so many different types of items you might need on your wedding day, from a mini-sewing kit to a phone charger. As you think of these things, pack them in a tote bag that can serve as your official wedding day emergency kit. Even if you’re not sure that you’ll use an item, bring it with you anyway. You never know when it’ll come in handy!
Practice Your Vows
Whether you're exchanging your vows at the ceremony or doing them privately with just your partner, take some time to practice reading the words out loud. You might get extra nervous on the actual day so being prepared with what you want to say ahead of time will make you feel a little more at ease.
Try to Rest and Relax
If the 30-day countdown is making you stressed, do what you can to build in time to rest and relax. Take it easy before your wedding day so you can make sure that you’re feeling your best. Schedule spa appointments, take Sunday afternoon naps, and do your best to lounge on the couch and do nothing. Save up as much energy as you can for the best day ever.
