There are some things about motherhood—the early days, in particular—that no amount of forewarning can prepare you for. Like the constant strain in your neck from craning your head as you gaze down at your nursing baby, or the newfound ache in your dominant hand from texting single handedly because one hand is always in use. Then there’s the nights—the long nights of marathon nursing, fevers and toddler teething—that demand loads of snuggling, rocking and shushing.
I tried everything that anyone recommended to me. After all, I was in no position to turn my nose up at something that might help us get some sweet, precious sleep. Bouncing on a giant exercise ball? Check. Binge watching Netflix on the iPad? Check. White noise machines (yes, plural)? Check. But arguably, nothing saved me quite like my dear glider.
This glider, the Babyletto Kiwi, is by no means a bargain. But with a cozy wingback style, this chair literally hugs you. It has an extremely smooth swivel motion that spans 270 degrees and reclines with ease to a near 180-degree angle. Despite these specs, I struggled to justify the cost. The glider, much like so many other baby products, seemed to cost three times the price of most things without the word "baby" attached. Wouldn’t a classic wooden rocker suffice? How could we drop so much cash on something that would inevitably end up covered in drool, spit and probably even poop?
I’ll tell you why. Because the early days of motherhood are exhausting, uncomfortable and often quite painful. I learned early that I should take comfort anywhere I could get it, and that comfort was found in my glider. Sitting in this chair is like chilling out on the fluffiest, coziest cloud. The arms are cushioned which makes it extremely comfortable for your baby to rest their head while nursing.
The best feature is the USB port on the inside of the chair’s armrest. This guarantees that your phone stays powered while trapped beneath a nursing baby as you venture down an Instagram rabbit hole.
