As you prepare for your wedding, one of the biggest decisions you’ll make is around who will take care of your celebration glam. If you’re eager to save money or you’re confident in your own beauty skills, it’s not a bad idea to DIY your wedding day makeup. To help you pull off the look you’ve always wanted, here are the five best beauty items — all suggested by a wedding makeup artist as must-haves for your wedding day.
A Concentre Face Cream
Before applying your makeup, Nia Ford, a professional makeup artist, said to start with a moisturizer and primer combination.
"Doing this will help you hydrate your skin, giving your makeup a smooth, long-lasting finish," she said.
Ford recommended applying this product after cleansing by adding a small amount of the cream as your final skincare step and the first prep step.
"Use clean hands and rub it gently into the skin, allowing it to absorb fully before applying makeup," she said.
A Blush That You Love
The best way to add a pop of color to your overall makeup is with the perfect shade of blush. Ford said that blush enhances your natural complexion, giving you a youthful, fresh appearance and preventing your makeup from looking one-dimensional.
"Blush brings life back into your makeup, adding dimension and a healthy flush of color. Without it, your makeup can look flat," she said.
To apply, Ford instructed brides to lightly dust blush onto the high points of your cheeks for a lifted effect.
"For a natural look, choose a shade that matches the pink in your lips," she said.
A Brow Pen
To enhance the look of your eyebrows, Ford shared that a brow pen can do the trick of filling in your bows with precision and ease.
"Using a good brow pen can help you create a soft, natural look,” she said. But over-drawing the brows can overpower the face, so use a pen that prevents that with a fine felt tip."
To apply, Ford instructed brides to use light, hair-like strokes to fill in sparse areas, mimicking the natural direction of your brow hairs.
Matte Pressed Face Powder
After you’ve applied your makeup for the big day, Ford said that a matte pressed face powder is a must to help set the makeup and keep the shine under control, especially in the T-zone area.
"This type of powder keeps your makeup looking fresh and matte throughout the day without over-drying or weighing down your skin," she shared.
To apply, Ford said to use a small fluffy brush or a powder puff to press the powder into the center of your face, focusing on oily areas.
A Foundation Palette
For long-lasting coverage, Ford recommended investing in a foundation palette to help your skin look flawless all night long.
"Pick one with multiple HD cream colors so you can highlight, conceal, and contour, all in one," she said.
When applying, she recommended starting from the lightest shades for highlighting the center of your face, and using the darker shades for contouring the perimeter.
"Apply in light layers, building coverage as needed, especially under the eyes, where less is more," she said.
