Follow the journey of four couples facing the deeply personal and life-changing decision to undergo gender transformation. The new TLC series, Lost In Transition, follows four relationships where the wives have recently learned their husbands kept a big secret for years: Each husband wants to become a woman.

Told from the wives' point of view, the series examines the confusion, anger, disappointment, and uncertainty that each couple goes through.

Lost In Transition, premiering May 20 at 10/9c, will look at the impact that gender dysphoria has on transgender people, as well as their friends, family and significant others; and how gender identity, and transitioning, affects those close relationships.

You'll witness each couple's journey as they come out to family and friends, take steps forward with the transition process, and figure out how to best evolve their marriages.

Here are the families you'll meet on Lost In Transition:

Jennifer and Larry (Lawren)

Jennifer and Larry (Lawren) met as teenagers while Jennifer was working as a singing waitress on a cruise ship, and they had an instant connection. They have a picture-perfect life: Larry is a successful attorney and Jennifer runs the law office, and they have four kids. They've always been the envy of their Eastern Virginia community; however, no one knew Larry has been secretly battling a deep depression for years. Jennifer was helplessly watching him spin out of control and had no idea what was going on. One night, Larry broke down and told her something he had been hiding his entire life. He revealed to his wife that he wanted to be a woman, and their lives changed instantly. Now, as Larry is becoming "Lawren," Jennifer is trying to hold the family, and their law practice, together.

Stacy and Les (Leslie)

Stacy and Les (Leslie) have known each other since grade school, but they fell for each other as sophomores in high school. Stacy was attracted to Les' oddball sense of humor and she couldn't imagine spending her life with anyone else. Once they got married, they settled into their simple life in a small, rural town in Washington with their toddler son. All was well until Stacy noticed that Les was becoming increasingly irritated with her and the baby for no apparent reason, but one day he finally broke down and confessed that he identified as a woman. Although Stacy initially felt betrayed and confused, she ultimately decided that she wants to do whatever it takes to help her husband and keep their family together. But, this may be easier said than done in their small-minded town where few people know what 'transgender' means. Ready to become "Leslie," she has started taking hormones and hopes to have facial feminization and gender confirmation surgery in order to look like the woman she feels inside. However, with another baby on the way, Stacy and Leslie must figure out how to physically, emotionally and financially prepare for the realities of their new normal.

Beverly and AJ (Karen)

Beverly and AJ (Karen) have a typical American love story. They met in college, got married three years later, raised two kids together, and had a happy marriage of 22 years. When Beverly found women's clothing on AJ's side of the closet, she confronted him about it, but she was not prepared for the life-altering conversation that would follow. AJ, a former marine and motorcycle junkie, admitted to Beverly that the clothes were his, he is transgender, and he wants to leave her to become "Karen." Floored by the news, Beverly struggles with their new family dynamics. Not only is Beverly grappling with her husband's revelation, but one of their children is also transgender and in the process of transitioning. Beverly's world has quickly been turned upside down and with the emotional support of her youngest daughter, Haley she is trying to figure out what the future holds. With her divorce pending, Beverly searches to find her footing as she prepares to find a new place to live, manage her finances alone, and re-enter the dating world.

Cindy and Troy (Lucy)

Cindy first met Troy (Lucy) after getting out of a 30-year abusive marriage. She was hesitant to jump into any kind of relationship again, but Troy was everything she hoped for in a man, but didn't think was possible. He was kind, sensitive and funny, and they shared undeniable chemistry. Their relationship seemed perfect for ten years until out of the blue, Troy admitted to Cindy that he has always felt like a woman, and he hopes to begin transitioning. Cindy is devastated by the news and she is having a hard time coming to terms with how Troy's transition will affect their relationship. She has made it clear that she does not want to be in a same-sex union, but she is conflicted about the possibility of losing her partner. Troy hopes that they can find a compromise because he does not want to lose the love of his life, but he also doesn't want to continue living a lie.
