Humans have been toasting – or at least drinking – wine since prehistoric times. For your big day, consider going all out on the ceremonial tradition with a vineyard wedding. From Sonoma and Napa to Vermont and Virginia, here are the most beautiful vineyard wedding venues across the United States.

The Vineyards at Chappel Lodge

Austin, Texas

Inspired by California with a unique, Lone Star State feel, The Vineyards at Chappel Lodge offer Texas brides and grooms the chance to tie-the-knot in elegant wine country style without the pricey out-of-state flight. The 53-acre property doesn’t actually make wine onsite or sell its grapes – yet! – but it boasts majestic live oak trees, fields of wildflowers and a beautiful vineyard. The private estate sits 10 minutes south of downtown Austin and has everything a couple needs to host a seamless wedding, including sound systems, heaters, custom tents, a variety of tables and up to 300 chairs. While the helpful staff certainly make this rustic chic place extremely appealing, what seals the deal for many couples are the overnight accommodations for up to 28 of their closest friends and family in the old-world stone lodge and spacious log cabin.

Hotel Villagio

Yountville, California

Napa is a dream wedding destination for many brides and grooms. Unfortunately, saying “I do” amongst its prestigious vineyards is much more difficult than one would think – most of the wineries aren’t legally allowed to host weddings. Only a handful of operations can host events, one of which is Hotel Villagio. The brand-spanking-new hotel, which opened in late 2018, boasts six different venue spaces stretching across 56,000 square feet. From the state-of-the-art barrel room and elegant pavilion at the Vintage Estate with its lush lawn and classic California terraced gardens, to the Vineyard and the intimate grove and olive room, couples can tailor their big day from totally luxe to cool shabby-chic.

Newport Vineyards

Middletown, Rhode Island

The 100-plus-acres of protected farmland that makes up Newport Vineyards is just a 10 minute drive from the historic streets and yacht-filled harbor of downtown Newport, Rhode Island. It’s an ideal location for couples who’d like their guests to experience both the nautical vibe of the town and the rolling countryside that has earned the region its “Farm Coast” title. In 2015, the vineyard underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation and expansion with a new winery tank room, marketplace, restaurant and a new event venue called the Meadow Room. Filled with cherry wood chairs and high top barrel tables, the chic farmhouse-inspired space – which has the modern sound systems and dance floor needed for an epic party – overlooks 30-acres of vines and screams of bucolic charm.

Shelburne Vineyard

Shelburne, Vermont

For the past 21 years – yes, it’s legal now – this vineyard has been growing grapes and making wine right in the Green Mountain State. It’s exactly what one would expect of the wine operation in Vermont. Recently developed grape varieties that are especially suited for the state’s terroir and cold climate are grown sustainably, then pressed and fermented at the LEED-certified winery into two lines. The first is a traditional style and the second is a series of natural wines, dubbed “lapetus,” that use only naturally occurring, wild yeast. It has a bit of an earthy vibe and it’s extremely good. All of those well recognized bottles can be served at onsite weddings that take place in the eco-friendly structure. The cabin-like space has a warm and cozy ambience with soft light fixtures made by local artisans and broad views of the vineyards from the French doors that spill out onto the patio.

Sunstone Vineyards & Winery

Santa Ynez, California

Are you dreaming of getting wed in the French countryside but can’t convince dad to leave the country? Consider Sunstone Vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley. At just 40 minutes from the Santa Barbara Airport, this Gallic-inspired vineyard and villa is about as close as you can get to a Provencal destination wedding without pulling out a passport. The sunny, hillside property is lined by rows of vines and dotted by romantic oak and olive trees. Its lavender and rosemary filled courtyard surrounds the beautiful stone villa and is such a coveted place to get hitched that numerous California celeb brides (including Lauren Conrad and Anna Camp) have picked the fairytale location as the place to celebrate their special days.

Chaumette Vineyards and Winery

Genevieve, Missouri

When Hank and Jackie Johnson bought a piece of land in Missouri wine country, they had no intention of starting a winery. Hank just thought he’d grow a few acres of grapes to try out a new hobby. He still grows and ferments them, but just on a far larger scale. The family-owned vineyard and winery now has its own tasting room, an acclaimed restaurant called The Grapevine Grill, several villas, a pool, hiking trails, 30-acres of vineyards onsite (a total of 300 if you count nearby parcels) and event spaces inside the Barn and Vineyard Room. Weddings at Chaumette are all-inclusive with everything needed – tables, chairs, china, silverware, linens and a day-of wedding coordinator – for an easy affair, along with fully customizable menus that can be paired to match whatever theme you choose for your special event.

Arbor Day Farm

Nebraska City, Nebraska

Arbor Day Farm, the birthplace of Arbor Day, has a lot of pastoral options for couples seeking an idyllic countryside wedding. The 260-acre National Historic Landmark has an onsite forest complete with a trickling creek, field of hazelnuts and multiple apple orchards, including one of the few collections of antique apples in the United States. And, of course, it has a vineyard and winery on the property. The farm makes about a dozen reds and whites from a range of European hybrids and native North American grapes, ranging from dry to sweet. There are six farm fruit varieties that capture the seasons in single varieties, like summer strawberry and peach to autumn apple and Honeycrisp – all of which can be featured on the menu for your stunning Historic Morton Barn reception.

Presqu'ile Winey

Santa Maria, California

Combining modern glass, stone and wood design elements with views of the surrounding mountains and the Pacific Ocean, Presqu'ile Winery’s tasting room looks like it’s straight out of a Sunset magazine spread. The structure will certainly look darn cool on your Insta, and this 200-acre property offers tons of dramatic wedding photo ops to mix it up. Outside, there’s a gorgeous hilltop lily pond with 360-degree panoramas and a beautifully landscaped patio with cozy fireplaces that extend right up to modern tasting room. When that cool Pacific air blows in, there’s no need to miss the views. The vaulted Alder wood ceiling event space features soaring, sliding glass doors that overlook the Santa Maria skyline.

Bedell Cellars

Cutchogue, New York

When Kip Bedell planted his first grapevines in 1980, he had no way of knowing that his small operation on Long Island’s North Fork would become one of the most critically acclaimed wineries in a highly visited wine region. Over the past four decades, the once sleepy farming community – which still maintains its quaint, rural feel – has transformed into top summer getaway for New Yorkers who prefer the laid-back, agrarian vibe over its expensive, celeb-studded sister region to the south, the Hamptons. Couples often choose to pledge their vows under an ancient maple tree as the sun begins setting over the nearby apple orchard, before moving to the cathedral-roofed pavilion for wining and dining. Whether your kicking it up on the dancefloor or puffing a cigar on 4,000-square foot attached mahogany deck, the airy space offers sweet views of the vineyards no matter where you’re standing.

Avensole Winery

Temecula, California

Roosted atop the scenic Rancho California ridgeline and commanding a prime view of Temecula Valley’s vineyards, Avensole Winery is a striking setting for an earthy vineyard wedding right in the middle of Southern California. The estate has been producing some of the region's finest grapes for more than four decades, but the properly has been recently overhauled with new amenities for events, including a beautiful ceremony lawn, stone patios, lots of greenery and a pond that’s an ideal place to tie the knot – especially when the spring wildflowers are in bloom. To make it as easy as possible, the event staff offers couples a variety of wedding packages that includes tables, chairs, linens and an adorable bridal cottage and groom suite, along with barrels of its award-winning wine for your guests.

The Winery at Bull Run

Centreville, Virginia

A mere 45 minutes from Washington D.C. – the closest winery to the nation’s capital – this working farm vineyard feels like a whole other world. The folks here aim to preserve and honor the history of 19th century agrarian Fairfax County. It boasts two types of historic barns that were once common in Northern Virginia, including a smaller 19th century-style structure and a larger 1920’s dairy barn with a hayloft and hay lift cable and beam. The crew here even salvaged the old stone foundation of the property’s original Hillwood Mansion, which burned in a fire a few decades ago and now serves as an altar and elevated stage for those who want to plight one’s troth in true rustic style – while drinking award-winning wines, of course.

Heron Hill Winery, Finger Lakes

Hammondsport, New York

About an hour and a half south of Rochester, New York’s, Finger Lakes is considered one of the top wine growing regions in the east. It’s hailed for its Rieslings and other delicate whites that are well suited to the chilly climate. Founded in 1977, Heron Hill was the first farm-winery on Keuka Lake, but the folks here didn’t start hosting weddings until 20 years later. Couples have been raving about their Heron Hill nuptial unions ever since. Its lush vineyards, gorgeous Greek Revival and traditional farm-inspired tasting hall are nestled into a slate hillside that offers stunning views of the water and rows of grapes that extend out as far as the eye can see.

Stone Tower Winery

Leesburg, Virginia

Gorgeous mountain views. Check. Rolling vineyards. Check. An easy trip from a major city (and airport!). Yep. Stone Tower Winery has all of the above and is just an hour’s drive from Washington, D.C. It offers something for every type of winery wedding, from intimate ceremonies amongst the wine tanks to large outdoor affairs in the vineyard with vast panoramas of the Bull Run Mountains. The venue can accommodate up to 250 guests with fully customizable events that could include a cocktail hour in the barrel room, followed by a swanky reception in the mirror-clad ballroom that features impressive views of the peaks from every which way you look.

Spring Lake Winery at Varallo Vineyards

Lockport, New York

At this Italian winery – that specializes in German Riesling – couples seal the deal underneath a quaint gazebo set right next to a quiet spring-fed lake. That’s enough to get many folks to say “I do” to a nuptial union here, and the 78-acre property also boasts a strolling park, nature trails and gorgeous vineyards. They even have a 150-year-old Zinfandel vine that still produces grapes. Is there a better beverage to drink when you’re celebrating the rest of your life with your betrothed? Aurora Cellars

Lake Leelanau, Michigan

The countryside surrounding Traverse City has been steadily growing into a serious wine destination. The area now offers around two dozen wineries and vineyards for grape-lovers to visit, making it an enviable place to host a weekend marriage ceremony. Aurora Cellars is one of the area’s most popular places to finalize the deal. The full production winery is sprawling and stunning no matter where you go, so couples have multiple options for sites depending on the size of the party. Sites range from small celebrations on the terrace that overlooks the rolling hills of Leelanau County to grand affairs at Aurora Cellars Estate, where up to 300 guests can wander throughout the small barn and Victorian farmhouse that sits right next to the vineyards.

Prairie Berry Winery

Hill City, South Dakota

Since 1876, Prairie Berry Winery has been transforming South Dakota’s wild fruit into boozy adult beverages. To this day, chokecherries, buffaloberries, wild grapes and wild plum are handpicked and fermented on site. While the place has won some accolades – its sassy and tart Red Ass Rhubarb is the perennially hit – it recently became a hotspot for weddings when the Homestead opened in 2014. The charming venue offers rustic Black Hill ambiance – ideal for Pinterest-perfect country wedding shots – but with all the modern amenities needed for a seamless big day, including an in-house culinary team that will create an individualized menu and a bridal suite that offers private space for the bridal parties to get ready.

Effingham Manor and Winery

Nokesville, Virginia

As one of the newer additions to eastern Virginia’s burgeoning winery scene, Effingham Manor and Winery combines convivial vino with some sobering history. The main house was built in 1767 by William Alexander, a great-grandson of John Alexander, the namesake of Alexandria, Virginia. The two-story, five-bay Tidewater-style residence offers breathtaking views of the stunningly landscaped grounds and English gardens, as well as the other historic structures in the Effingham national historic district located in Prince William County. The area encompasses a terraced garden said to be one of the earliest in Virginia and a former slaves’ quarters of America’s early history, all of which are points to consider when planning your special day.

Gervasi Vineyard

Canton, Ohio

Gervasi Vineyard has a lot to offer. There’s a rustic Italian bistro and wine bar housed inside a restored 1823 barn, a quaint marketplace, culinary center, lakeside walking trails and 24 opulent villas. It’s no wonder the place has become one of the region’s go-to wedding venues. The immaculately manicured 55-acre estate offers something for every kind of bride and groom, from intimate garden affairs to extravagant indoor fetes. Woodinville, Washington

For the modern couple who wants to combine great food, interesting design and award-winning wines all within a 45-minute drive of a major airport (Seattle-Tacoma International, in case you’re wondering), this Woodinville wine country destination has you covered. Novelty Hill and Januik Winery combines the cool city vibe of nearby Seattle with the fresh fare and wines of the countryside. The vibe is cool both inside and out with verdant gardens and an impressive outdoor water feature juxtaposed by the sleek concrete, warm wood winery and tasting room. There’s really no need to add additional decor, but the professional event staff are willing to help couples custom tailor the space – and the renowned menu – to create the ideal setting for an unforgettable wedding celebration.

Grace Winery

Glen Mills, Pennsylvania

Just 45 minutes away from Philadelphia in the tranquil Brandywine Valley, Grace Winery and Sweetwater Farm offer local brides and grooms a chance to go back in time without having to figure out the whole time travel thing. The 50-acre historic estate features gorgeous vineyards and a 15-room inn located in the 1734 and 1815 wings of the manor house, as well as a handful of cottages that overlook the vines. It makes for a wonderful bucolic weekend retreat, but what really sets the place apart as a wedding destination is the beautifully renovated 1750’s barn, the home of Grace Winery, where you’ll celebrate your union after pledging your love amid the old growth trees in the property’s secluded Sweetwater Woods.

Marsing, Idaho

Set on a 200-foot cliff right in the midst of Idaho’s Snake River Wine Region, this beautiful vineyard offers plenty of great locally-made wine along with dramatic views of the valley and rushing river below. The venue can accommodate up to 200 guests on its hilltop dance floor and dining deck. That area is photogenic as heck and your photographer will surely geek out over all of the gorgeous scenes, including more 150 mature trees, a rock garden, waterfall, gazebo and more than two acres of grass and wildflowers. The family-owned business primarily focuses on catering to weddings, so they have everything needed to create the perfect nuptial celebration without any external stress. Schnebly Redland's Winery

Homestead, Florida

That is not a typo; wine is most certainly made in Florida. There are vineyards all over the state, but none as well known as Schnebly. The Homestead-based company makes dry and sweet wines from all manners of tropical fruits. From guava and passion fruit to avocado and mango, you’ll fall in love with the flavors, and, as you’d expect with that sort of flair, the property is absolutely fetching. Bring your friends and family together on 30-acres of lush tropical gardens to watch you tie-the-knot. Couples can choose from four tropical ceremony sites, some of which feature dramatic waterfalls.
