Winter gets the short end of the stick when it comes to weddings. Throughout much of the U.S., the coldest months of the year are the least popular for couples to tie the knot. It’s time to embrace the snow in all of its glistening glory with a ski country wedding. From ski-in/ski-out unions to cozy fetes at the base, check out these 10 winter wedding wonderlands.

Viceroy Snowmass

Snowmass Village, Colorado

This luxe ski resort, set high in the Colorado Rockies, boasts the only ski-in/ski-out ballroom in the region. The bride and groom (or any combination of the two) can literally ski-in down an aisle of powder to their ceremony. Couples who book Viceroy Snowmass’ fully customizable Elope on the Slopes package are in for a weekend of romantic adventure without having to worry about anything other than remaining upright. The on-site wedding coordinator takes care of everything from lift tickets and videography to flowers, decor and getting an ordained minister to seal the deal. Following the ski-in nuptial rites, the wedding party can ski-out to a reception in the private dining room at TORO Kitchen & Lounge for an intimate celebration with their slopes-loving friends and family.

Sun Valley Resort

Sun Valley, Idaho

Sun Valley has attracted adventure enthusiasts of all shapes and stripes. The gorgeous town, nestled among Idaho’s grand Sawtooth Mountains, was once home to Ernest Hemingway, and Bruce Willis owns a ski mountain in the region. Built in 1936, Sun Valley Resort helped put the ski town on the map as the first destination resort in the United States. Couples who’d like to wed in a secluded winter wonderland can tie-the-knot while overlooking runs at the Roundhouse Restaurant. Accessible only by gondola, the mountainside restaurant offers gorgeous views of the Sawtooth Mountain slopes for up to 175 guests.

Powder Ridge Mountain Park & Resort

Middlefield, Connecticut

“Steph and Sean got married on top of the mountain,” said photographer Caitlin Fletcher Reardon, owner of Cait Fletcher Photography. “They took the ski lift up, so we took great photos on the way up and down.”

That’s basically this New England resort’s equivalent to walking down the aisle—and it’s what most couples choose to do for their big day. The 225-acre mountain property boasts ceremony sites ranging from a mountaintop gazebo with a wide-open vista to a pondside spot next to the base. While most couples choose to wed when temps are a bit milder, this all-season place offers wedding dates throughout the year for 80 to a whopping 1,000 guests.

Park City Mountain

Park City, Utah

With cerulean skies, verdant evergreens and papery white Aspen trees, Park City is lovely, no matter when you go. Its eponymous ski resort offers couples the chance to wed in mountainside splendor all throughout the year. The resort features four different venues that can accommodate up to 450 guests. Red Pine Lodge is the largest and probably the grandest of them all. Set 8,000 feet up, guests can soak in gorgeous views starting on their way up to the ceremony and reception site during their ride in the fully enclosed Red Pine Gondola Cabin. The two-level lodge boasts a beautiful outdoor patio that can be fully customized for the event; it’ll feel like you and your spouse own the mountain for the night.

Big Sky Resort

Big Sky, Montana

The alpenglow sunsets that light up Lone Peak are spectacular whether the slopes are covered in snow or vibrant wildflowers. That soaring summit sure as heck makes for a dramatic wedding backdrop—and it’s always on full display from the base of Big Sky Resort. Couples can pick and choose from a variety of ceremony and reception venues depending on the season, from eloping on skis at the top of the Tram at 11,166-feet to a reception for 450 guests overlooking Lone Mountain and Spanish Peaks as the fires roar inside Vista Hall & Deck.

Stratton Mountain Resort

Stratton Mountain, Vermont

Whether there is powder on the ground or not, The Chapel of the Snows is a cozy spot to seal the deal. Available all year round, the non-denominational chapel, which is capped with a rustic exposed wood beam ceiling, comfortably sits 150 guests right in the heart of Stratton Mountain Resort. But those couples who’d prefer to say “I do” on top of the peaks tend to wait until the ground thaws to tie-the-knot on the summit. For the party, the resort has four different venues to pick from, offering a quintessential alpine ambiance that barely needs any decoration to look great.

Taos Ski Valley

Taos, New Mexico

This upcoming 2019-2020 season is bringing ski-in, ski-out weddings to Taos Ski Valley. Its completely redesigned mid-mountain venue, Phoenix Lodge, offers 6,334-square-feet of reception space with two outdoor ceremony sites that can accommodate up to 250 people right at Kachina Basin. The whole spread features 360-degrees of Sangre de Christo Mountain views. The scene is breathtaking with its green summer backdrop and when its capped in snow during the winter. Of course, couples who don’t want to arrive at their union covered in powder need not ski into the ceremony, but the option is there for those who want to make a high impact entrance.

Boyne Highlands Resort

Harbor Springs, Michigan

There’s a reason Boyne Highlands is one of the top places in the Midwest to beat the winter blues. It boasts some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the region with 55 groomed runs and the longest run in Michigan, clocking in at 1.25-miles. Give your friends and family a reason to celebrate the longest season with a slope-side union at this snowy playground. The resort offers more than 30,000 square feet of event space with venues that can accommodate up to 600 guests. The resort’s wedding coordinator works with every couple to create the bespoke wedding of their dreams, from saying “I do” on top of the run to full-service dinners for 300.

Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole

Teton Village, Wyoming

Few landscapes are more breathtaking than the Grand Tetons. The soaring peaks seem to jut straight into the sky, and they’re hailed across the globe as a top destination for skiers and snowboarders who want to get their hearts racing. Incorporate the imposing peak’s stunning natural beauty and world-class runs into your weekend celebration at this mountainside Four Seasons property. Couples who want to celebrate winter’s splendor can walk down a snow-covered aisle as their guests sip hot apple cider while covered by blankets before heading into the warm Cottonwood Ballroom to thaw out and celebrate.

Mammoth Mountain

Mammoth Lakes, California

For the past couple of years, ski season in Mammoth has stretched from fall all the way through the Fourth of July holiday. That means couples who’d like to wed amongst the snow-covered Eastern Sierra have plenty of dates to choose from. Adrenaline junkies can exchange vows on the summit and ski or snowboard down to the reception. The resort boasts 10 different ceremony sites and 11 reception venues, many of which feature roaring fireplaces, spiced beverages and a rustic alpine ambiance. One of the best places to celebrate your union in winter is the Mill Cafe & Sundeck, an intimate ski cabin with vaulted ceilings, vast mountain views and an outdoor sundeck that’s heated by a large fire pit.
