8 Gorgeous Engagement and Wedding Ring Trends for 2022
Weddings are filled with endless decisions that are all pulled together to create a special, memory-filled celebration. One decision that lingers forever in the most special kind of way, is what kind of engagement and wedding ring you want. With so many options to pick from, it can be hard to know what kind of style is right for you.
To help you get started, here’s the top advice on 2022 ring trends, straight from eight diamond experts.
Socially Conscious Diamond Decisions
Suzanne Sachs, founder of Vintage Diamond Ring, says that as couples begin their wedding journeys, they are caring more and more about how their plans can impact the environment.
"Many consumers are concerned with choosing an eco-friendly engagement ring that will show their commitment to the planet even as they make their commitment to each other," says Sachs.
Unique Shapes That Aren’t So Traditional
When deciding on the look of the ring, Amish Shaw, the president of ALTR Created Diamonds, says that today's consumer is more exploratory and open minded to different shapes than the traditional circular or square diamond engagement and wedding rings, which were popular throughout the 20th century.
"In 2022, consumers have shown a greater interest in shapes like emerald, oval, pears, which were popular in the distant past with royalty and high standing members of society," says Shaw. "This has in part been driven by the rise in period piece dramas with a focus on royalty and the ultra-wealthy."
Lab Grown Diamonds
If you’re looking for a less expensive diamond option, Apeksha Kothari, the COO of RareCarat.com, says that lab grown diamonds are flying off the shelves right now.
"As millennials are becoming more cost-conscious and wanting to make a more eco-friendly decision, lab grown diamonds are an easy yes," says Kothari. "These diamonds are grown in a lab instead of the ground. This means no mining, less environmental impact and a much lower price-tag, all while still getting a tough diamond that will last forever and hold up better due to its toughness than other gemstones that are softer."
Custom Styles
As weddings become less one-size-fits-all and more personalized to the couple, Andrew Brown, the CEO of myGemma, says couples want their rings to have the design of their dreams.
"Many couples are looking for unique and customized rings to reflect their style and personality," says Brown.
Yellow Gold Rings
When you’re deciding on the metal of your ring, Amanda Treviso, a buyer for Shane Co., says she’s seen a lot of yellow gold rings rise to the top of the trend charts.
"We love its bright, warm color. We're also loving a simple solitaire ring paired with an elongated stone to show some sparkle — oval, emerald, radiant and marquise-shaped stones all achieve that look," says Treviso. "The romantic floral look is also selling well, and we predict that trend to continue through 2022."
Two-Stone Styles
When it comes to the styles that set trends, Lorraine Brantner, a James Allen Gemologist, says requests are often influenced by the rings celebrities get for their engagements.
"We have been seeing requests for two-stone engagement rings and think that this trend is one worth celebrating," says Brantner. "Thanks to the recent engagement of Megan Fox, plus Ariana Grande and Emily Ratajkowski over the years, the tio et moi style is already big for 2022. The stones represent the union of two people while celebrating their uniqueness."
Chunky Bands and Bold Stacks
If you’re looking for a more dynamic look, Melanie Casey, founder of Hammered Band, says that chunky bands and bold stacks are trending in 2022.
"Why stop at one band when you can create a bold stack of two, three or even four bands? Or make a statement with a single, extra-wide band," says Casey. "This 2022 trend is about getting creative with patterns, textures, and structures so your creativity and unique love can shine."
Classics Forever
Even if there’s a variety of styles trending in 2022, Kim Kanaray, a diamontologist from Jedora, says timeless classics never go out of style.
"An elegant solitaire will still reign supreme for many and for good reason. It never goes out of style, and it can be adorned with different bands, enhancers, wraps and the like for a unique look," says Kanaray. "Plus, with the beauty, elegance, sparkle and symbolism of a diamond as the focal point, you really can't go wrong."
