90 Day Fiance Customs & Celebrations
This season our 90-day fiance couples hail from around the world coupling up with partners from all over the United States. To celebrate this intercultural love, we’re sharing some of the unique traditions of this season’s featured countries.
Iran
Mahdi is from Teran, Iran where there are many different celebrations related to both religion and the political calendar. Perhaps the most celebrated is Nowruz, the Persian New Year. Unlike the American New Year, this holiday happens in March at the start of spring, generally March 20 or 21st. During this 13-day holiday Iranians clean to symbolize a renewal of spirit. Shopping is a big part of the holiday with Iranians purchasing everything from new clothes to fresh cut flowers to start the year. On the 13th day, Sizdah Bedar, families gather in nature having picnics outside and play outdoor games.
Yalda Night is another Iranian traditional holiday on the winter solstice celebrating the longest night of the year. On this night families gather with their elders and indulge in a feast of watermelon, pomegranates, and persimmons representing the glowing sunlight to come. Plenty of nuts and dried fruit are also served.
France

Paris is home to many celebrations and festivals celebrating all the incredible music and arts you’ll find across the city. Any given weekend you’ll find a reason to celebrate.
Bastille Day is a well-known French holiday occurring on July 14 celebrating the French Revolution. The day is filled with activities including a military parade and fireworks.
Beaujolais Nouveau, a celebration of the first AOC wines of the year occurs on the 3rd Thursday in November and it’s a fun time for celebrating with friends in cafes and sipping wine.
Mexico
Matt and Amani have been together in San Diego, but they are considering adding Any from Tijuana, Mexico to become a throuple. Tijuana may be just over the border from San Diego, but Mexico does have some unique holidays and traditions.
Two of the best-known Mexican holidays are La Dia De Los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, celebrated on November 1 and Cinco de Mayo on May 5, celebrating the 1852 victory over France.
Did you know that Caesar salad originated in Tijuana? You’ll still find great food and a lot of cool street art in the city too.

Uganda

June 3 is the Festival of the Ugandan Martyrs, where millions come to celebrate one of the biggest Christian celebrations in the world.
Turkey
Sarper comes from Istanbul, Turkey where Republic Day on October 29 is a major holiday marking the creation of the Turkish republic. Locals celebrate with poetry readings, live music, dances, sketches and more.
Turkish coffee has become a key part of social gatherings, made in a special coffee pot called a cezve. Turkish baths have made their way to America but in Turkish culture they are abundant and promote wellbeing and relaxation. The process includes a steam bath, a scrub and a massage. Turkey is also known for its incredible cuisine and bustling markets.
Brazil
Alliya hails from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil which is known for beautiful beaches, busting nightlife and stunning scenery. Their most well-known holiday is Carnival that occurs right before Lent where millions of people flock the streets of Rio (with celebrations across Brazil) in costume with parades, dancing and a massive celebration.
Colombia
Juan comes from Cali, Colombia also known as the Salsa dancing capital of the world. Colombia is known for both its music and dancing with tons of opportunities to experience both.
The Cali Fair, held from December 25-30, is sometimes also referred to as the sugar cane fair or the salsa dancing fair. This major event features a parade of horseback riders, many salsa dancers, bullfighting, international street food, athletic events and more. Colombia celebrates Carneval as well.
Football (the non-American version) is super popular in Colombia as well.
