Family-Friendly V-Day Activities

There is something so pure about the love kids have for Valentine’s Day. There is no pressure to make the day perfect; it’s just a great excuse to celebrate all things love. Throw the perfect fete with these ideas from crafts to delicious treats and decorations.

Hang Up Hearts

Get the party started with hearts galore. Hearts are easy to cut out for older kids and they can be many different sizes and colors. Start the party with a variety of materials for them to decorate with, including fun metallic wrapping paper and construction paper. Heart balloons are great, too, if you can find them. Kids can place the hearts all over the house or keep it contained to a heart wall–the possibilities are endless!

Create Your Own Mailbox for Valentines

You can get mini mailboxes (for less than $5) that kids can decorate and use to collect valentines. Buy a bunch of fun stickers, pom poms, anything little ones can stick on the outside to personalize their mailbox.

Make Heart-Shaped Pizzas

A fun and easy lunch or dinner for kids is a DIY heart-shaped pizza. The dough is easy to form into heart shapes and, from there, kids can decorate to their pizzas as they wish. If you want to get overzealous you can even cut pepperonis into little hearts as well.

Decorate Cookies

There are few things more fun to kids than decorating cookies. Bake sugar cookies ahead of time and use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to punch them out. Set up little bowls with different colored frostings (red, white and pink), a variety of sprinkles, candy hearts and chocolate pieces and let the kids become mini pastry chefs.

Do a Photo Booth

Capture snapshots of all the good times by creating your own photo booth! Get together a variety of props like sunglasses, hats, fun necklaces and more. Create signs on sticks with sayings like “kisses 5 cents,” “xoxo” or “love you” and other cute cut outs like bowties, hearts and lips.

Have a Special Drink

Kids can have a signature drink at their parties too! Make a Valentine’s Day mocktail with fruit punch and rim the glass with fun pop rocks or festive sprinkles. If the weather is chilly, make hot cocoa the main event and plop in colored heart-shaped marshmallows.

Pass Out Valentines

What’s a Valentine’s Day party without valentines? Set up a valentine making station (after everyone has made a mailbox, of course) and let them create. Make sure everyone makes one for each kid, so nobody is left out, or have the kids make valentines for their families.

Dress Up

There is nothing cuter than little kids dressed up in formal clothes. If your kids won’t fight it, host a “fancy” party and gush over mini tuxedos, suspenders, tutus and frilly dresses.

Have a Party Favor

Who doesn’t love a little giveaway at the end of a party? You could do candy conversation hearts or something that will last a little longer like heart-shaped sunglasses or heart-shaped bubble wands.
