DIY Gifts for Grandma and Grandpa

We already know that grandparents are basically the best thing ever. They let their grandkids stay up past their bedtime and they have a secret stash of snacks that parents don’t know about. Any time with grandpa and grandpa — or nana and pop, grammy and poppy, or whatever special name your family has chosen for them! — is always a good time. So, in honor of the awesome grandparents in your kids’ lives, we’re sharing quick and easy gifts your children can make for National Grandparents Day. It’s time to celebrate Grandparents Day with some treats, matching outfits, and cool gifts that any grandmother or grandfather would adore!

Heart-Shaped Cupcakes

How about a sweet treat that looks even sweeter? Making homemade heart-shaped cupcakes is easy with one simple hack. Start with your favorite cupcake recipe or box of cupcake mix. Prepare the batter and pour into individual cupcake liners inside a cupcake pan. Be sure to only fill the cupcake liners about halfway. Then, take a few pieces of aluminum foil and place them around the cupcake liner to create the heart shape. You’ll need one piece rolled into a ball and two side pieces. Follow the instructions to bake and when they are done, you’ll have adorable and yummy cupcakes to gift grandma and grandpa!

Matching Shirts

If your kids are crazy about their grandparents, then why not create matching shirts to sport on Grandparents Day? In just a few minutes, you can make super trendy, reverse tie-dye shirts. Be sure to get your camera ready because we guarantee there will be some seriously frame-worthy photos to come from these matching shirts.

Photo Coasters

You know grandparents love pictures of their grandkids. So, help your children make some photo coasters for Grandparents Day. Just print a few pictures of your kids, grab a tile coaster kit from the craft store, and a bottle of decoupage glue. Start by cutting the pictures to fit the coasters, and apply thin layers of the glue to the tile and the photo. In just a few minutes, you’ll have a full set of photo coasters that grandparents will love using and showing off.

Pumpkin Spice Marshmallows

If grandma or grandpa are on Team Fall, then your kids can make them a yummy fall treat: pumpkin spice marshmallows. Perfect for coffee or hot cocoa, this treat is a crowd-pleaser for any fall fan. Start with marshmallow fluff and add cinnamon, nutmeg, all spice, and ginger. Mix together and add a few drops of orange food coloring. Then, place the mixture on a sheet of wax paper and pop it in the freezer. Before serving, use a pumpkin cookie cutter to give your homemade marshmallows a fun fall shape.

Thumbprint Heart Vase

If you are bringing flowers to grandma, your kids can make this a personalized vase for her or fill it with candy for grandpa. Start with a mason jar and a few colors of washable paint. Paint the outside of the jar. Then, dip the sides of your kids’ thumbs in paint and place them on the mason jar to make tiny hearts. This craft is quick, easy, and super sweet.
