Ananda Lewis Shares Her Favorite DIY Project
Having a child for the first time is full of excitement and worry, and that was no different for While You Were Out host Ananda Lewis! Even before welcoming her son, she knew her parenting style would lead to many nights sharing her sleeping space.
To prepare, she set out for a bed that met her qualifications: cushioned headboard for no boo-boos, soft sides, and a low profile he couldn’t crawl under. After searching high and low with no luck, Ananda built her own. Talk about skills!
Here’s how she did it:
Ananda began by going to a lumberyard for her basic building supplies: short blocks for the legs, longer pieces for the sides, width, and interior of the bedframe, and plywood for the headboard.
Then, she chose the foam and fabric that would cushion and decorate the sides and headboard of her new bed.
To assemble, Ananda began by building out the frame and legs of the bed, laying out the longer boards inside the frame to create the platform where the mattress would rest. Then she glued her foam to the sides and headboard, using a staple gun to upholster over the foam with fabric.
Easy as pie, right?
Even if you’re not a champion DIY-er like Ananda, you can get a lot more inspiration from her and the TLC and HGTV carpenters and designers on the new season of While You Were Out, premiering Saturday March 16 at 9/8c!
