Are You Truly Over Your Ex?
Taking time to heal after a breakup is necessary. Some people need more time than others, but moving on will happen eventually. However, the lines can get a little blurred sometimes. Here are eight signs that you’re still working on it.
You Still Talk About Them 24/7
If you find yourself chatting about your ex way more than you probably should, it may be a sign that they’re still living rent-free in your mind. Whether you’re reminiscing about the good times or complaining about moments of frustration, it might be hard to realize just how much you bring them up in conversation. Give a friend permission to alert you whenever your chats get taken over by ex talk.
You Find it Hard to Focus on Someone New
You may be on a date, but your mind is somewhere else — with your ex! It can be difficult to get close to someone new if you’re still thinking about your previous relationship. If your heart is still with your ex, you probably compare them to everyone else you meet.
Seeing Them Post-Breakup Is Rough
You’ve shared so many memories and that’s hard to let go of. When you run into your ex in a public setting, you may feel a plethora of emotions that you can’t really explain — and that’s as normal as could be! However, if you feel completely overwhelmed and can’t seem to comfort yourself in the situation, you probably need more time to heal.
You Keep Trying To "Bump Into" Them
While there are some people who can’t handle seeing their ex, there are other people who intentionally want to see them again (usually in hopes of rekindling the relationship). That’s definitely a sign that you want them back in your life, and you’re willing to show up at all of their favorite spots to do so.
There’s a Lingering Competitive Feeling
After a breakup, there can be this odd sense of competition with your ex. Are they happier than I am? Who is going to be in a new relationship first? Am I doing better than they are post-breakup? Just remember that comparison is the thief of joy and this is the best time to focus on yourself!
You Stalk Their Social Media
We all scroll through social media accounts, but if you’re not over your ex, you might be a little obsessive about checking their posts. You may feel the need to keep tabs on what they’re doing and who they’re with, even if it doesn’t directly affect you anymore. This habit can also feed into the previous sign about competition.
Rereading Old Texts Is a Nightly Ritual
Do you find yourself looking back at conversations with your ex, just to relive those old feelings you had? It may be comforting at the moment, but if you do it often, it’s probably a sign you’re not over them yet.
You See Them in Everything You Do
Just like in the movies, you see your ex in the coffee shop barista, the billboards, and even the clouds in the sky. Maybe you see people who look eerily similar to them all over the place. It’s just another sign that they’re still heavily on your mind and you haven't fully moved on just yet.
