7 Summer Hairstyles You'll Love
Hot days and humid air make a dangerous combo. Instead of letting your hair succumb to the harsh summer weather, take back control! Our favorite summer hairstyles will keep your hair up and way from your face, all while combating frizz and flyaways. From braids and buns to accessories you'll want to stock up on, here are the looks you'll want to try this season!
Bubble Pony
The bubble pony is a fun twist on the braided ponytail. It's all about the volume and texture for this style. Tie your hair up into a high ponytail as your base, then move down the length of your locks an inch or two (depending on your length) and tie another elastic. Space out as many elastics as you can and tug on the hair between each elastic to increase the volume of each "bubble." The trick is to use clear elastics so the bubbles really stand out on their own. These mini elastics are great for both fine and thick hair types!
Braided Crown
Also known as milkmaid braids, this hairstyle is a showstopper. Luckily, there's a cool trick to acheiving this look if you're not the best French or Dutch braider. Create two braided pigtails, one on each side of your head, with the bases tight and slightly above the ear. Then, take the braid on your right and cross it over to the left, and bring the braid on your left over to the right. Make sure both crossed braids are sitting close to your hairline. Finally, pin the ends of the braids and any loose strands to finish the look and keep it in place.
Half Up
For those moments when you want your hair out of your face, but you don't want to wear it all down. A half up hairstyle suits all hair types, from fine and straight to thick and curly. Accessorize with a satin scrunchie or pearl bobby pins to hold down fly aways and add a special touch to your look.
Braided or Twisted Buns
If you love an intricate updo, this one's for you! After splitting your hair in half and parting it down the middle, you can choose to French braid, Dutch braid, or rope twist both sides. Finish off the style with space buns (a bun on each side at the top of the head) or join both hair sections together to create one bun. For even more fun, you can divide your sections one more time and have one braid coming from the front of your head and another coming up from the nape of your neck (as pictured).
Bandana Updo
A bandana is a great way to keep hair out of your face while still looking stylish. Simply put your hair in a ponytail or bun and tie the bandana where a regular headband would go. Choose a pack of exciting paisley prints or go for satin headscarves to keep your hair protected and smooth.
Claw Clip
Claw clips are all the rage right now, super easy and very reminiscent of '90s style. There are so many fun ways to wear them, but I personally love to clip a low ponytail up vertically above the nape of my neck. Get creative with matte neutrals, luxe metals, classy pearls, or this colorful 12 pack of clips.
Slick Low Bun
When all else fails, slick everything back. To keep all of your strands in place, opt for a strong hold gel from Eco Style or Aussie. Some people even use Olaplex No. 3 to slick back their hair and nourish it at the same time!
