Children’s’ Books that Promote a Second Language

It’s no secret that exposing children to a second language when they’re young is great for their development. In fact, studies have shown that it improves cognitive abilities, boosts your child’s problem-solving skills and it makes it easier for your child to develop empathy.

If your little one decides to learn another language as an adult, having been exposed to a foreign language as a child they may learn new languages faster. And in a world that’s connected by the Internet, where we can easily access information in many languages and where a lot of jobs require bilingual speakers, you are doing a great service to your children by exposing them to different languages.

Here are 10 books that will get your kids started:

First 100 Words

This is a great book for learning simple Spanish words. The pages have images and the corresponding name of item in both English and Spanish. It’s great for children ages 1 and up. However, if you’re looking for something geared towards an older child, get this one instead.

This is going to be a fun book to read since your child probably knows the song. The book is written in both Spanish and English for beginners.

This classic is well loved by many. What’s great about this version is that each page is in Spanish and English so your child can practice both languages. Additionally, the sentences are simple, which makes it a great book for toddlers and kindergarteners.
