Adam and Danielle Busby on Their Family of Eight
We've followed Adam and Danielle's parenthood journey on OutDaughtered from the very beginning. Now, the proud parents of six are giving us an exclusive look inside their very busy life. Click through to find out how much their family has changed and learn more about the Busby girls!
Now that the quints are school-age, we imagine life in the Busby house is very different from when they were babies and toddlers! What's the biggest new challenge you have faced at this stage?
D: We now have six kids that are all in different activities, they’re all at different things with school, different levels of learning, different friends. They are just like little people with their own bubble of interests and stuff. And so, managing and keeping up — remembering what every little kid’s individual things are — it is challenging! You know, when they were quint babies, it was Blayke and the quints. Now, it’s Blayke and her five sisters, and they’re all six. So, they’re not slumped together anymore.
A: There’s just a lot going on throughout the week. We’re just kind of managing the activities and extracurricular activities.
What's the first word that comes to mind when you think of each of your daughters?
Blayke: Confident and Compassionate
Riley: Spunk and Wildcard
Olivia: Goofball and Sensitive
Parker: Tough and Confident
Hazel: Sweetheart and Happy
Ava: Goofball and Drama Queen
Which daughter is most like dad? Most like mom?
D: Hazel is most like Adam.
A: Yeah, because I’m so sweet.
D: All of them just take after me!
A: It probably would be Riley. She’s the most stubborn...most confrontational, most type A and gets things done. She puts her mind to something, she’s going to do it. She’s bound and determined, like nobody is going to tell her otherwise, just like Danielle.
What's the best parenting advice you ever received?
D: Know your kid. Know that kid and spend time with that kid, and have that individual time. A lot of people have told us that, but now as our girls have gotten older, we’ve understood how important it is to understand what works for this child...Understanding their highs and lows individually.
What advice do you/would you give new/expecting parents of multiples?
D: You’re not going to be able to do it all. Allow yourself to accept people and a community, and surround yourself with positivity and the people around you. That’s one thing we were blessed with and I feel like we’re the do-it-yourself kind of people, figure it all out on your own, but we’ve learned to let people come into our life, love on us, want to wash clothes or bring us a meal. You just say yes!
When you each manage to get time to yourselves, what's the first thing you do?
A: We have to remove ourselves from the house, whether it’s going on a date night or going on a staycation weekend. Probably two to three times a year, we’ll try to take a weekend-long vacation.
D: But also, just the moments together when it’s quiet and taking ourselves outside the house — Sometimes, our schedules are different these days with the boutique, and we’re both not inside the home during the day. So, grabbing coffee together or, “Hey, let’s meet up for lunch.”
A: So that your date nights don’t turn into a meeting…It’s a time to enjoy each other and just have fun.
What’s the sister dynamic like between big sis Blayke and the quints, now that everyone is a bit older?
D: I think Riley has really attached more to Blayke, and Blayke with Riley. They do a lot of things together. Hazel is still Parker’s baby because she’s taller than her. She still feels a protectiveness around her.
A: And then, Ava and Olivia are just inseparable.
What’s the most rewarding part of raising six kids together?
D: As challenging, exciting, and joyful as this life is, there’s nothing better than when our kids say I love you.
They’re all so different and the fact that we get to love on them and they love us, it’s special. It’s extra special.
A: It’s just everything that you could hope for as a parent times six. The days are sometimes long and stressful, but the love is just so big in this house. Our kids are so sweet and so loving.
