Bunking with a Blow Dryer
Lori's blow dryer reminded her of sharing a bed with her older sister, Tawni when she was a child. She started sleeping with a blow dryer when she was around eight years old and the warmth and sound of it instantly put her to sleep. This continued into adulthood and put a strain on her marriage — and even caused burns and injuries. Lori was able to take up meditation instead and occasionally used her blow dryer during the day.
Shoe Shopaholic
Rebeca owned over 200 pairs of shoes and shopping trips gave her an adrenaline rush. She spent $45,000 on shoes, money that could've been put towards her upcoming wedding. She spoke with a therapist and realized that her shoes weren't truly fulfilling her and made her anxiety worse. She concluded that she didn't need more shoes and graduated to window shopping.
Sniffing Mothballs
Alicia loved the smell of mothballs because they reminded her of her grandmother. Sniffing them was a source of comfort for her for 15 years and she quickly found herself smelling mothballs up to 25 times a day. After a doctor warned her of the serious side effects (such as cataracts and organ failure) caused by smelling mothballs, she was able to give them up for good.
Love for Leeches
Vladimir proudly put 12 leeches on his body at a time. After a bad car accident, he experienced significant nerve and joint pain. So, he decided to use leech therapy and it gave him the relief he was looking for — and soon, he was hooked. He stored several jars of leeches in his home to use around the clock, depsite the risk of infection.
Eating Dirt
Kristie admitted to eating dirt all day long. She loved the scent of dirt ever since she was a child and one day she had a taste. Since then, Kristie couldn't live without her favorite treat. She stashed dirt in her purse for shopping trips and took shots of dirt for a quick snack. However, a doctor explained that dirt can be contaminated by anything and wreak havoc on her organs. The information Kristie learned at her doctor's visit was enough to put an end to her dirt consumption.
Long Nails & Toenails
Ayanna had over 15 feet of nails on her fingers and toes. Her toenails in particular made her feel sassy and sexy. However, she was diagnosed with Diabetes and her long toenails made it difficult (if not impossible) to stay active. A podiatrist warned Ayanna about potential fungus and offered to trim her toenails. In the end, Ayanna declined and decided to keep growing her nails.
Car Obsession
Nathaniel developed and obsession with model cars when he was a teen. A few years later, he started a relationship with his red car, Chase. Only his roommate, Kim, knew about this secret and when he told his father, he took it well. Nathaniel's attachment to Chase continued and he began seeing a therapist regularly.
Eating Bricks
Living in London, Patrice had access to all the bricks she could ever want. When she was a kid, her grandmother told her that her aunt and uncle used to pick off pieces of the wall and eat them — and of course, curious Patrice had to try it herself. Over the span of 12 years, she ate half a ton of bricks.
Coffe Enemas
Husband and wife, Mike and Trina, couldn't go a day without multiple coffee enemas. Trina got Mike into the habit after it seemingly helped with her stomach issues, and it became part of their morning routine. They each had different preferences about the brews they used. Although a doctor warned them about chronic constipation and complications due to the chemicals in coffee, Mike and Trina weren't willing to give up their coffee enemas.
Cat Hair
Lisa started eating cat hair as a way to feel closer to her pets. She even groomed her cats with her tongue like a mama cat. After 15 years, she decided to reveal her addiction to her loved ones and visited a specialist. However, she wasn't quite ready to give up her love for cat hair.
