Simplify Your Season Cleaning
One of the best things about the holiday season is putting up all of your favorite decorations, and one of the worst parts of the season is taking all those decorations back down. Before you start to pack up the stockings, put away the lights and say farewell to all of your ornaments, here are 10 hacks that will make storing your Christmas decorations easier. Not only will you save space, but you’ll make decorating for next year even easier.
How to Store Lights
When Christmas lights come down, wrap each strand around a piece of cardboard. This will guarantee they don’t get tangled and save storage space. You can easily test each strand next year, and you can even write labels on the cardboard like “Outside lights” or “Tree lights.”
How to Store Fragile Pieces
Store smaller ornaments in empty egg carton containers. This is a great option for fragile ornaments that you want to keep safe year after year.
DIY Ornament Holder
This DIY ornament holder is perfect for larger tree décor and only takes a few minutes to make. For this hack, you’ll need plastic cups, pieces of cardboard, a hot glue gun and a plastic storage container. Start by cutting the cardboard into large pieces that will fit inside the storage container. Then attach the plastic cups to the top of the cardboard by using the hot glue. When it dries, fill the cups with ornaments. Finish by stacking the DIY holders inside the plastic containers.
How to Store a Beaded Garland
If your beaded garland turns into a tangled mess each year, this storage trick is a must. Simply fill an empty water bottle with each strand of beads. So next year, just pour out the beads and start decorating.
How to Store Colorful Décor
If you use different colored décor throughout your house, use clear plastic storage bags to pack up all of your decorations and ornaments. Then store all of those items together and be sure to clearly label.
How to Store Wrapping Paper
Not sure what to do with all of your wrapping paper? To ensure your paper is intact and ready to use next year, try this hack. Grab a garment bag, fill it up with all of your wrapping paper, ribbon and bows, and hang it up for next year.
How to Store Candles
Keep all of your candles protected and ready for next holiday season by storing them in paper towel rolls. You can even use the paper towels as cushioning.
How to Store Valuables
If you run out of bubble wrap, use stockings to wrap up your valuable decorations.
How to Store Wreaths
Don’t ruin your holiday wreaths by shoving them in storage bins. Wrap wreaths in garbage bags and use a hanger to hang each wreath. Then hang the wreaths on a coat rack, in the closet, or wherever you store decorations.
Simplify Next Year’s Process
Before putting away all of the boxes and bins, leave a note on top where you list what is contained inside. This is especially helpful if you purchased anything new after the holidays and will make decorating next year much easier.
