Though Elizabeth Taylor has been married eight times, and had eight different wedding dresses, our favorite was her original frock. In 1950, then-18-year-old Taylor married Conrad Nicky Hilton in a silk-satin oyster shell-colored gown, which was designed by Helen Rose (more on her in slide 5) as a gift from MGM studios.

Jackie Kennedy was always perfectly dressed while in the White House, and it will come as no surprise that people still talk about her gorgeous wedding gown. To walk down the aisle with John F. Kennedy in 1953, she wore an Ann Lowe-designed gown made from silk taffeta and with a portrait neckline and full bouffant skirt. She also wore her grandmother’s pared-down veil.

For her second wedding to baseball star Joe DiMaggio in 1954, Marilyn Monroe decided against a classic white dress. Instead, she wore a curve-hugging chocolate brown wool dress with a white Ermine fur peter pan color. She covered it with a simple black coat when facing the media frenzy outside of San Francisco City Hall.

Fashion icon Audrey Hepburn earned her status with the trendsetting gown she wore to her 1954 wedding to actor Mel Ferrer. Designed by Pierre Balmain, the unique tea-length dress had full sleeves, a high neck, and a circle skirt. She finished it off with a beautiful floral crown.

Actress Grace Kelly wed Prince Rainier III of Monaco on April 18, 1956 in a gown designed by MGM’s Academy Award-winning costume designer Helen Rose. It included 25 yards of silk taffeta, 100 yards of silk net, peau de soie, tulle, and 125-year-old Brussels rose point lace. And her veil, made of tulle, measured 90 yards.

Actress Mia Farrow married Frank Sinatra in Las Vegas in 1966, and she donned a refreshingly simple white dress and double-breasted blazer with ornate buttons. It was just as modern and sleek as her pixie cut.

To marry the king of rock ’n’ roll at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas in 1967, Priscilla Presley looked every bit the fashionable late ‘60s lady she was in a flowing silk-chiffon gown with glittering pearl embellishments. She accessorized with a sky-high bouffant, tiara and lace veil.

Bianca Jagger opted for a less traditional ensemble when she married rocker Mick Jagger in 1971. She chose a plunging Yves St. Laurent Le Smoking jacket, white skirt, floppy wide brim hat and a veil.

Princess Diana married Prince Charles in 1981, and her stunning dress, designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel, reflected a few of the trends that time — puffed sleeves, a full skirt and soft fabrics. Made of ivory silk taffeta and handmade antique lace, the gown included embroidery, sequins and 10,000 pearls, as well as a 25-foot train.

No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani has a unique sense of style, and she brought her one-of-a-kind aesthetic to her big day. Choosing a pink ombre gown designed by John Galliano for Dior, she looked both radiant and rock ’n’ roll at the same time.

When Katie Holmes married Tom Cruise in 2006, she chose Giorgio Armani to help her design her gown. "Katie wanted a simple, elegant dress that was rich in material with a slim silhouette," he told People. "I couldn't have been more in agreement.” Her off-the-shoulder ivory gown included a silk train adorned with Valenciennes lace and Swarovski beaded crystal embroidery.

For her 2009 wedding to Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump looked demure yet romantic in her Vera Wang custom wedding gown. With lace sleeves and a higher neckline, her Grace Kelly-inspired dress impressed conservative brides everywhere.

Kate Middleton married Prince William in a much-anticipated ceremony on April 29, 2011. English designer Sarah Burton, creative director of the luxury fashion house Alexander McQueen, had the privilege of designing Kate’s iconic gown, which consisted of an ivory satin bodice, a floral-patterned lace overlay, 58 buttons, and a Victorian-style semi-bustle at the back with a 9-foot train.

In 2011, supermodel Kate Moss wed musician Jamie Hince in a stunning cream-colored dress designed by former Dior designer John Galliano. Always one to make a statement, the bias cut, ‘20s silhouette and shimmering embellishments on this gown made Kate a standout bride.

Solange Knowles is known for her eclectic style, and for second wedding in 2014, she rocked several fashion-forward looks. Though she wore a long-sleeved caped Humberto Leon for Kenzo gown for the ceremony, it was the cream Stephane Rolland jumpsuit (also with a cape) she wore after the ceremony that had everyone buzzing.
